We’re looking for experienced, part-time Baristas who are passionate about coffee, customer service, and the great outdoors. If you take pride in producing consistently high-quality drinks, enjoy engaging with people, and want to work in a unique natural setting, we’d love to hear from you.
Hiatus Coffee is a small but growing operation based at Swiss Valley Reservoir. As part of a close-knit team, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the business. This is a hands-on role where standards matter, and everyone contributes to maintaining a smooth, efficient, and welcoming environment.
We’re building a reliable, high-quality team and are looking for individuals who are proactive, take ownership of their work, and can operate confidently without constant supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, tea, and our signature hot chocolates with consistency and attention to detail
- Deliver excellent customer service, creating a warm, friendly, and efficient atmosphere
- Operate and maintain coffee equipment safely and correctly
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all areas
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and restocking
- Work independently during quieter periods and efficiently as part of a team during busy service
- Take initiative to identify and complete tasks without being prompted
- Adapt to different roles as required, including serving, cleaning, and restocking
- Engage confidently with customers, including those taking part in onsite outdoor activities
- Be comfortable occasionally featuring in social media content and contributing to showcasing the brand
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven barista experience with a solid understanding of coffee preparation and equipment
- Strong customer service skills and confidence interacting with a wide range of people
- The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- A high level of personal responsibility and the ability to self-manage day-to-day tasks
- Confidence working independently without the need for close supervision
- A positive, team-focused attitude—reliable, supportive, and willing to contribute
- The ability to take direction when needed and step up to support or guide others when required
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in cleanliness and presentation
- Flexibility to work mornings, weekends, and peak seasonal periods
- Comfortable working outdoors and being on your feet for extended periods
Desirable (but not essential):
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) and/or First Aid training (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with stock management and ordering
- Previous work in outdoor or seasonal hospitality environments
- An interest in watersports or outdoor activities
- Basic IT skills (POS systems, stock tracking, etc.)
- A basic understanding of social media or an interest in developing these skills as part of the role
How We Work:
At Hiatus Coffee, we take pride in doing things properly. We’re a small team, and every person plays an important role in maintaining high standards across the business.
We value people who:
- Take ownership of their work and don’t wait to be told what to do
- Look for small ways to improve things day-to-day, rather than just going through the motions
- Bring a positive attitude and contribute to a strong team environment
- Are reliable, consistent, and take pride in doing a good job—even during quieter or less visible tasks
This role suits someone who enjoys being part of a team that is always looking to improve, and who wants to grow alongside a business that is actively developing and expanding.
Our Hiring Process:
We run a structured hiring process so that both you and the team can get a genuine feel for whether the role is the right fit for you.
Step 1 – Application & Short Video
Alongside your application, we ask candidates to submit a short (1–2 minute) video introducing themselves via E-Mail, Facebook Messenger or Instagram . This doesn’t need to be high quality or edited—just a simple introduction covering availability, commute, experience and anything else you want to include; so we can get a sense of your communication style and personality.
Step 2 – Short Individual Interview
Selected candidates will be invited to a short 15–20 minute interview to discuss experience, availability, and suitability for the role.
Step 3 – Trial Shift
Final-stage candidates will be invited to complete a trial shift. This gives you the opportunity to experience the role and team firsthand, and allows us to assess how you work in a real environment.
In some cases, we may offer the opportunity to complete a short trial on the same day as your interview, depending on availability—this is entirely optional.
Step 5 – Offer & Probation
Successful candidates will be offered a position subject to a probation period, during which we focus on consistency, development, and integration into the team.
We review applications on a rolling basis and aim to move quickly through each stage.
What We Offer:
- The opportunity to work in a unique and scenic environment at Swiss Valley Reservoir
- A supportive, small team where your contribution genuinely matters
- Ongoing training and development (barista skills, food hygiene, first aid, paddlesports qualifications)
- Staff discounts and complimentary access to food, drinks, and onsite activities—including watersports and Wales's highest rated outdoor sauna
- A positive and professional working environment focused on quality and consistency
- The opportunity to grow with the business, with new projects and developments planned—including involvement in brand and social media activity
This role suits someone who takes pride in their work, look's for the 1% improvements and enjoys being part of a small but growing, hardworking team.
