Job Summary

DadsWork SCIO is an active Scottish charity based in Prestonpans, East Lothian, supporting fathers, male caregivers, and their children. It began as DadsWork in 2000 and became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in 2022. oscr.org.uk

Its services include:

· Father-support groups and a safe place to share experiences.

· Positive-parenting classes, workshops, and practical advice.

· Home visits, family trips, and activities for fathers and children.

· Support intended to improve mental health, confidence, social connection, and parent-child relationships.

The charity's registered number is SC051771, and its stated purpose includes advancing fathers' education and health and improving the well-being of fathers and male carers

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Worker to join our team, delivering dedicated support to fathers and men experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting men to improve their mental health, build resilience, strengthen relationships, and access the services they need. The successful candidate will provide person-centred, trauma-informed support through one-to-one sessions, group programmes, community outreach, and partnership working.

Key Responsibilities

Provide emotional and practical support to fathers and men experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges.
Build trusting relationships through person-centred, strengths-based approaches.
Deliver one-to-one wellbeing support, mentoring, and guided conversations.
Facilitate peer support groups, workshops, and wellbeing activities.
Support individuals to identify personal goals and develop wellbeing plans.
Signpost and refer clients to appropriate mental health, housing, employment, financial, family, and community services.
Work collaboratively with partner organisations and statutory services to improve outcomes for clients.
Maintain accurate records, case notes, and outcome monitoring in line with organisational policies including reports to the Project Manager.
Safeguard adults and children by recognising concerns and following safeguarding procedures.
Promote positive mental health, reduce stigma, and encourage early intervention.
Contribute to service development and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Experience supporting adults experiencing mental health or wellbeing challenges.
Experience with working with fathers or men is desirable
Understands the unique challenges faced by fathers and men, including social isolation, stigma, relationship issues, and barriers to accessing support.
Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and excellent listening skills.
Can build positive, professional relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
Has experience of case management, support planning, or advocacy.
Is confident delivering both one-to-one and group-based support.
Has excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills.
Can work independently while contributing positively to a supportive team.
Has a good understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Qualification in Mental Health, Counselling, Social Care, Psychology, Community Development, Health and Social Care, or a related field.
Mental Health First Aid or equivalent training.
Experience working within community, voluntary, or family support services.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, suicide prevention, or men's mental health.
Experience supporting fathers during pregnancy, the postnatal period, or family transitions is desirable.
UK driver’s license is essential.
