Your expertise will support the optimization of clinical workflows, enhance data accuracy, and improve patient outcomes through innovative informatics solutions.
1. Job summary
The Clinical Informatics Analyst supports Hill Brow Partnership to deliver high-quality, data-driven primary care. The post holder designs, runs and interprets clinical reports and audits – principally through the practice’s Welby reporting software and SystmOne clinical system – and turns clinical and operational data into accurate, actionable intelligence.
The role has three connected strands – clinical audit, quality improvement (QI) and research – underpinned by strong data quality and information governance. The post holder helps the practice improve patient safety and clinical outcomes, evidence CQC compliance, and meet QOF, IIF, MOS and enhanced-service requirements.
2. Key responsibilities
2.1 Clinical reporting and data analysis
– Validate, run and maintain clinical searches, reports and dashboards using Welby reporting software and the SystmOne clinical system.
– Extract, cleanse, link and analyse data from SystmOne, Welby, ICE pathology and other sources to support population health management, case-finding and proactive care.
– Maintain the practice’s library of live reports – documenting report logic, coding definitions, data sources and version control, and reviewing reports regularly for continued accuracy and clinical relevance.
– Develop clear data visualisations that make complex information accessible to clinical and non-clinical audiences.
– Support QOF, IIF and enhanced-service reporting, performance monitoring and recall, identifying gaps and prompting timely clinical action.
– Provide accurate ad-hoc data extraction and analysis in response to clinical, operational, PCN and commissioning requests.
2.2 Clinical audit
– Plan, design and deliver clinical audits using recognised methodology and the full audit cycle (standard-setting, data collection, analysis, change, and re-audit).
– Support GPs, trainees (including ST3 registrars) and wider staff to scope, run, analyse and write up audits.
– Maintain a practice audit programme and register, tracking completion, actions and re-audit.
– Ensure audits are methodologically sound, appropriately sampled, and reported with clear, actionable recommendations.
2.3 Quality improvement
– Facilitate and support QI projects using recognised methodology
– Provide measurement for improvement, building run charts and statistical process control (SPC) charts to distinguish real change from natural variation.
– Work with clinical teams to identify improvement priorities from data and to test and embed change.
– Contribute data and evidence to practice governance and CQC assurance across the five key domains (Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, Well-led).
2.4 Research
– Support the practice’s participation in ethically approved primary care research, including identifying eligible cohorts and supporting recruitment through searches.
– Ensure all research activity complies with relevant governance – HRA/REC approvals, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), data-sharing agreements, and the National Data Opt-Out.
– Maintain robust information-governance safeguards for all research data, applying pseudonymisation and minimum-necessary principles.
2.5 Data quality and information governance
– Champion data quality – coding accuracy (SNOMED CT), completeness and consistency – and run data-quality and correction exercises.
– Work within data-protection law and guidance: UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Common Law Duty of Confidentiality and the Caldicott Principles.
– Support the practice’s compliance with the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).
– Apply clinical-safety standards (DCB0129 and DCB0160) when developing or changing reports, searches or automations that could affect patient care.
2.6 Communication and working relationships
– Present data, findings and recommendations clearly to clinical, management and multidisciplinary audiences, both verbally and in writing.
– Translate complex analytical and technical concepts for non-technical colleagues.
– Build effective working relationships across the practice, PCN, ICB and external partners.
2.7 Professional standards and development
– Keep up to date with developments in SystmOne, Welby, clinical coding and NHS data standards.

Health & safety, and infection prevention
– Comply with practice health & safety and infection prevention and control policies, and take reasonable care of own and others’ safety.
Equality, diversity & inclusion
– Act at all times in accordance with the practice’s equality and diversity policy and the Equality Act 2010, treating patients and colleagues with dignity and respect.
