We are seeking to appoint a Technician to work in the Campus Support team within the Operations area of IT Services. This is a 12 month fixed term role within the Campus Support practice who provide an in-person, second line support service for all UWE campuses across Bristol. It is anticipated that this role will be based predominately at our Frenchay Campus, however the successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly and to fulfil their role on any of our other main Bristol campuses when required by business need.
Working as part of a campus-based team the purpose of this role is to enable the delivery of robust and fit for purpose classroom and desktop-based IT, AV and learning systems across the university’s campuses, along with the support, installation and maintenance activities for these systems. Business need requires this role to be physically on campus throughout the working week, and so hybrid working will not be considered as a practical option.
Working closely with Senior Engineers and Engineers the post holder will be required to take part in developing, commissioning, supporting and maintaining IT/AV systems in collaboration with academic, professional services and ITS colleagues. There are also opportunities to show supervisory skills whilst training, developing and acting as a point of technical escalation and support for junior members of the Campus Support team. This role would also be expected to contribute to the ongoing growth of teamwork within a practice whose professional activities and behaviours reflect UWE’s core values.
This is a varied role and whilst technical expertise and knowledge of supporting and maintaining IT and AV systems are an essential requirement, in person customer service skills and skills in communicating complex technical matters to non-technical colleagues are also important.
You will be communicating at all organisational levels so having experience of working in a complex university or other complex organisational environment would be an advantage. This role are based in the Campus Support team; however, it is expected that there will be a high degree of cross team working and collaboration to resolve issues and develop the wider IT support service.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a breadth of experience in delivering technical support resolutions and excellent customer service in a complex and challenging technical environment. Will be able to show development and supervisory skills. Will have an innovative approach to problem solving along with an expert knowledge across a variety of IT, AV and Learning Technologies.

This is a campus-based role where one of the many duties of the post holder will be to oversee our delivery of in person technical support to staff and students and to act as a technical escalation point for junior members of the team. So good operational and supervisory skills alongside excellent customer service will be a valuable addition to the IT and AV technical expertise the role requires.
