Full job description

At Buro Happold, we’re looking for a commercially minded Credit Risk Manager to take ownership of our global credit risk capability and play a pivotal role in protecting the business from financial risk while supporting sustainable growth.

This role will be based from our Bath office with a hybrid working arrange or 1 to 2 days in the office.

This is a high-impact role where your insight will influence strategic decisions across a global organisation—partnering with stakeholders up to board level and shaping how we assess and respond to client risk.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the credit risk function, acting as the go-to expert for all risk-related matters across the business. Your responsibilities will include:
Assessing the creditworthiness and insolvency risk of clients globally—from SMEs to major international organisations
Providing expert insight into sanctions, solvency and country risk, supporting key bid and commercial decisions
Monitoring our client portfolio, identifying early warning signs and proactively managing risk exposure
Acting as a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the business, including senior leadership and regional teams
Managing credit insurance policies and recommending appropriate risk mitigation strategies
Driving data quality, reporting accuracy and continuous improvement within the credit risk function
Collaborating with Commercial, Legal and project teams to embed a strong risk-aware culture
Leading and developing a small team, with scope to grow the function over time
Leveraging tools, automation and emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of risk processes

What success looks like

You’ll be a visible leader within the organisation—shaping the strategic direction of credit risk and ensuring your insights are embedded into business decision-making.
By building strong stakeholder relationships and proactively highlighting risks, you’ll help safeguard the business while enabling confident, well-informed growth.

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines strong analytical capability with the confidence to influence at a senior level.

You’ll bring:

Experience in credit risk, underwriting or financial analysis
Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex risk into clear, actionable insight
Confidence working with senior stakeholders, including board-level audiences
Excellent relationship-building skills across a global organisation
A proactive, self-driven approach with a continuous improvement mindset
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
Solid Excel and data analysis skills

Desirable:

Experience in the construction or engineering sector
Knowledge of sanctions legislation within a B2B environment
Line management experience
Membership of (or willingness to work towards) the Chartered Institute of Credit Management (CICM)
