The postholder leads the Quality Assurance division within Academic Registry, ensuring delivery of high quality, customer focused services that support institutional strategy. They act as the University’s expert on quality assurance, overseeing key processes such as programme and module approval and amendment, programme monitoring, external examining, and academic regulations. They manage a team to coordinate and enhance services for staff and students. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the contribute to strategic development of the wider Academic Registry.

Job Title: Interim Quality Assurance Manager

Registry Officers, Senior Registry Administrators and Registry Administrators

Job Purpose:

The postholder manages and provides leadership to their allocated Section of the Academic Registry, ensuring they achieve their objectives to support the Department’s strategy whilst providing an excellent customer experience. They will act as the institutional expert and recognised authority on matters and issues within the University relating to their allocated Section, and they will actively contribute to, and assist with, the strategic development of the Academic Registry.

The postholder will lead their allocated Section to deliver agile, customer-focused services that support the University’s strategic objectives, ensuring excellent user experience and effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The Quality Assurance Section of the Academic Registry includes the following activities: (i) Programme Approval; (ii) Programme Monitoring, Review and Enhancement; (iii) Programme/Module Amendments; (iv) Accreditations and External Reviews; (v) External Examining; (vi) Academic Framework and Regulations; (vii) Academic Registry policies and associated processes and casework.

The postholder develops specialist expertise and manages their team to co-ordinate, deliver, and enhance processes for academic colleagues and learners. They will practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

Strategic Leadership & Development

Assist with the development and delivery of long-term strategy for Quality Assurance, Regulations, Policy & Casework.Lead the design, implementation, and enhancement of key processes, including External Examiner nominations, Programme Approval, Academic Integrity, Academic Appeals, and Programme setup.
Monitor sector developments (OfS, QAA, OIA, FHEQ, PSRBs) and recommend strategic changes to systems, policies, and procedures.
Lead cross-Registry and cross-University projects, delivering within agreed timelines and budgets.

Operational Management

Take accountability for operational planning across all functional areas, ensuring alignment with Academic Registry strategy.
Set and monitor objectives for the team to achieve strategic aims and deliver excellent service.
Oversee the delivery of high-risk casework (academic integrity, appeals, fitness-to-practice) and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Ensure the accurate and timely setup of academic programmes on the student management system.

Expert Advisory Responsibilities

Provide authoritative advice to senior managers, academic leaders, and external partners on regulations, quality assurance, and casework.
Represent Academic Registry on committees, panels, Boards of Examiners, and working groups.
Engage in external networking to bring best practice and sector intelligence into University processes.
Lead training for academic and professional services colleagues on regulations, quality assurance, and policy implementation.

People Leadership

Line management responsibilities including recruitment and selection, performance management, professional development, motivation, health & safety, and wellbeing, and have an agile approach to change.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

Monitor service provision and act on feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Comply with relevant legislative and other statutory requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Office for Students Conditions of Registration, Health and Safety; UK Visas and Immigration; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
Maintain auditable records and oversee responses to Freedom of Information and data subject access requests.
Evaluate the success of projects and disseminate lessons learned.
