Full job description

At Maggs Day Centre, we support people experiencing homelessness and severe disadvantage across Worcestershire. We provide compassionate, person-centred services that promote dignity, safety, independence and long-term change.

We are looking for two Malvern Hub Support Workers to join our team and help strengthen our homelessness support and prevention work across the Malvern Hills District.

These are varied, community-based roles combining support from our Malvern Support Hub with proactive outreach across the wider district. You will work with people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, insecure housing, sofa surfing and multiple disadvantage, helping people access the right support as early as possible and working alongside them to prevent crisis and build greater stability.

About the Role

As a Malvern Hub Support Worker, you will:

Provide welcoming, practical and person-centred support through the Malvern Support Hub, including drop-in and planned support
Undertake proactive outreach across the Malvern Hills District to reach people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, housing insecurity or who may be at risk of homelessness
Build trusting relationships with people who may experience barriers to accessing or engaging with statutory services
Identify individual needs, strengths and risks and work collaboratively with people to agree appropriate support
Provide practical and emotional one-to-one support around housing, homelessness prevention, health and wellbeing, benefits, budgeting, daily living and tenancy sustainment
Support people to access accommodation, healthcare, benefits, specialist services and wider community support through referrals, advocacy and warm handovers
Hold and manage an appropriate caseload, supporting individuals towards their agreed goals and outcomes
Work proactively with people at risk of homelessness to help prevent crisis, eviction and repeat homelessness
Maintain accurate support plans, risk assessments, case records, referrals and outcome information
Work closely with local authorities, housing providers, health and social care services and voluntary and community organisations
Contribute to multi-agency working and coordinated support where this will improve outcomes
Develop relationships within communities across the Malvern Hills District to improve awareness of support and opportunities for earlier intervention
Support community-based activities, drop-ins and opportunities that promote wellbeing, connection and engagement
Work positively alongside volunteers and support their involvement within the Hub and wider community
Encourage meaningful involvement and co-production, ensuring people who use Maggs' services have opportunities to influence how support is developed and delivered
Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting to help us understand the difference the service is making

A Role That Goes Beyond the Hub

This isn't a role where you will spend every day working from the same building.

Alongside providing support from the Malvern Support Hub, you will work proactively within communities across the Malvern Hills District, helping us reach people who may not otherwise access support.

You might be supporting someone who is already experiencing homelessness, working with someone whose accommodation is at risk, helping an individual navigate housing or healthcare services, or connecting someone with specialist support before their circumstances reach crisis point.

The role therefore requires someone who is comfortable working both independently in the community and as part of a wider team.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Has experience of supporting people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, multiple disadvantage or other complex needs
Can build positive and trusting relationships with people who may be experiencing crisis or face barriers to engaging with services
Understands person-centred, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches
Is compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental
Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
Can advocate for people and help them navigate services and systems
Understands safeguarding, professional boundaries, confidentiality and risk management
Can confidently work independently in community settings while contributing positively to a wider team
Is organised and able to manage an appropriate caseload and competing priorities
Is committed to partnership working and developing constructive relationships with other organisations
Is committed to equality, diversity, dignity and inclusion
Values co-production and believes people with lived experience should have a meaningful voice in the services they use

Experience of homelessness outreach, homelessness prevention, housing or tenancy sustainment, multi-agency casework or community engagement would be particularly valuable.

Knowledge of services and referral pathways across the Malvern Hills District and wider Worcestershire would also be an advantage.

A relevant qualification in housing, health and social care, community work or a related field is desirable, although relevant experience is equally welcomed.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is desirable.

Working in Partnership

No single service can prevent homelessness alone.

You will work closely with colleagues across Maggs as well as local authorities, housing providers, health and social care services, voluntary and community organisations and other specialist services.

A key part of the role will be helping people access coordinated support, making effective referrals and building strong relationships with organisations and communities across the district.
