IPS is seeking an experienced and motivated Pumps Supervisor to lead and support the day-to-day operations of our Pumps Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a team of operatives and apprentices engaged in the inspection, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, assembly, and testing of industrial pumps and associated rotating equipment.
The role requires a strong technical background in pump repairs, combined with proven leadership skills, to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The Pumps Supervisor will play a key role in driving operational performance, developing employees, maintaining customer satisfaction, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Pumps Department to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with customer requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to operatives and apprentices.
- Allocate work and resources effectively to meet work plans.
- Review incoming jobs, assess repair requirements, and support the preparation of repair quotations and work scopes.
- Oversee the dismantling, inspection, repair, overhaul, assembly, and testing of industrial pumps and rotating equipment.
- Ensure all repair documentation, inspection records, and quality control checks are completed accurately.
- Monitor productivity, quality, and departmental performance, taking corrective action where required.
- Support employee development through coaching, training, mentoring, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with all Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) requirements.
- Work closely with customers, internal departments, and management teams to ensure excellent service delivery.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Skills and Experience
- Significant experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of industrial pumps and rotating equipment.
- Previous supervisory, team leader, or senior fitter experience within an engineering or pump repair environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of centrifugal, positive displacement, and submersible pumps.
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and repair procedures.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment, including vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and people management skills.
- Experience managing performance, attendance, training, and employee development.
- Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
Essential Requirements
- Time-served Mechanical Fitter, Pump Fitter, or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Proven experience supervising or leading engineering workshop teams.
- Strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer service.
- Ability to make informed decisions and solve technical and operational problems.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office and workshop management systems.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including overtime when required.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within a pump repair, rotating equipment, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of laser alignment, condition monitoring, and vibration analysis.
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Experience managing apprentices and supporting workforce development.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Pay: Up to £48,000.00 per year
