Job Summary

As a Senior Care Assistant / Team Leader, you will lead by example in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to residents. You will provide guidance, support, and supervision to Care Assistants, ensuring care is delivered safely, compassionately, and in accordance with residents' care plans, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

You will assist residents with personal care and activities of daily living, while also taking responsibility for medication administration, care documentation, staff support, resident observations, and acting as a key point of contact for residents, families, and healthcare professionals. You will promote dignity, independence, wellbeing, and choice at all times and contribute to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Supervision

Lead and support the care team during each shift, ensuring high standards of care are maintained.
Provide guidance, coaching, and support to Care Assistants.
Allocate duties and monitor the completion of care tasks throughout the shift.
Act as a role model, promoting professionalism, respect, and person-centred care.
Participate in staff inductions, mentoring, and competency assessments as required.
Report staffing concerns, performance issues, or training needs to management.

Resident Care

Deliver and oversee person-centred care in accordance with individual care plans and risk assessments.
Support residents with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and continence care.
Support residents with mobility, transfers, nutrition, hydration, and emotional wellbeing.
Encourage independence and enable residents to make choices about their daily lives.
Promote residents' dignity, privacy, rights, and individuality at all times.
Facilitate meaningful activities and social engagement on an individual and group basis.

Medication and Clinical Support

Administer, record, and monitor medication in accordance with company policy and training.
Report medication errors, omissions, or concerns promptly.
Undertake observations and monitor residents' physical and emotional wellbeing.
Identify changes in residents' conditions and escalate concerns appropriately.
Liaise with GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals when required.

Key Worker Responsibilities

Act as a Key Worker for allocated residents.
Maintain regular contact with residents and their families.
Contribute to the development, review, and updating of care plans and risk assessments.
Ensure residents' preferences, wishes, and outcomes are reflected in their care.

Communication and Documentation

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential care records.
Complete daily reports, incident reports, body maps, and monitoring charts as required.
Lead effective shift handovers and communicate relevant information to colleagues.
Communicate professionally with residents, families, visitors, and external professionals.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety and Compliance

Recognise, respond to, and report safeguarding concerns in accordance with company procedures.
Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed by all staff.
Conduct routine health and safety checks and report hazards promptly.
Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and concerns using appropriate procedures.
Ensure compliance with GDPR, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.
Promote safe moving and handling practices and the correct use of equipment.

Team and Professional Development

Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments.
Participate in supervisions, appraisals, training, and continuous professional development.
Support a positive team culture and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Maintain professional boundaries and conduct at all times.

Person SpecificationEssential

Previous experience working in a care setting.
NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards Level 3).
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead by example and support colleagues.
Understanding of safeguarding, infection control, and person-centred care.
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Desirable

NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
Medication administration training and experience.
Experience supporting residents living with dementia.

Registered Manager / Deputy Manager

Pay: £13.50-£13.92 per hour
