Casual Support Worker
Scale 4 (£16.35 per hour inclusive of holiday pay)
Casual role, shifts including a range of flexible hours including weekend and night work
Supported tenancies across the borough

Shortlisting Date: First stage W/C 10th August 2026. A second shortlisting process will be conducted for first stage successful candidates through a brief telephone interview during this week.
Interview Date: W/C 7th Sept and W/C 14th Sept

Interview Type: In person panel based with numeracy and literacy testing

Induction Training Programme: You will be required to attend mandatory training on 7, 8, 9, 15, 16 and 22nd October 2026. These dates are fixed and cannot be rearranged; attendance is a condition of the job offer and must be completed before you are offered any shifts. Applicants who are unable to commit to these dates should not apply.

Please note, this induction programme involves attendance of more than 20 hours in certain weeks. If you hold a visa that restricts the amount of additional work you can undertake (for example, some sponsored work visas), you should ensure that participation in this role and the associated training is permitted under your immigration conditions before applying. Where your visa limits you to a maximum of 20 hours of additional work per week, you may not be eligible to undertake this role or attend the mandatory training programme. It is the applicant’s responsibility to confirm their right to work and compliance with any visa restrictions.

Your Role

Can you make a positive contribution by supporting people with learning disabilities in their own homes to live independent and meaningful lives?

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join the Support Worker Bureau to provide physical, practical and emotional support to people who have learning disabilities in day to day living and self care, whilst protecting their rights as an adult.

There are a number of properties across the borough which at times may involve lone working. You will be expected to work across all locations within the Opportunities Together service; this my involve transferring locations at short notice.

About You

You will need experience of working with people with disabilities, this can be in either a paid, voluntary, or personal capacity. Demonstrable ability to meet a wide range of Service User’s needs, including managing behaviours that can challenge, personal care tasks and administration of medication.

You will empower individuals to live as independently as possible, promoting independence within safe practice for the service. You will advocate for individuals where required.

You must have the availability and flexibility to work irregular hours such as early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Although this is a casual role you must be punctual and reliable.

The successful applicant’s appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including a Disclosure and Barring Service check, at a charge to candidates of £68.50.

As part of your Disclosure and Barring Service application you will be expected to register with the Update Service which enables your employer or future employers to carry out an online Status check of your DBS certificate. This removes the requirement to have and pay for another full DBS check and is a condition of working as a casual in this role. You must sign up with the Update Service within 30 days of receiving your DBS clearance being issued. The cost for annual subscription is £16 which you will be expected to pay.

Stockport Council holds a Visa sponsorship licence, but this can only be used for certain roles, and this campaign does not currently qualify.

Due to the additional provisions set out for young workers in the 'working time regulations 1999 act', applicants must be 18 years or over to be considered for this work.
