Hybrid working - This Police Staff role adheres to Corporation of London’s hybrid working policy, which requires a 60% office attendance rate. The specifics of this will be discussed locally with your hiring manager if you’re successful for the role.

About the team
You will be working with a diverse range of colleagues including both police officers and police staff. The management reporting structure includes two senior vetting officers, who you will be reporting directly into. A Force Vetting Manager, and a Head of Vetting.
The Force Vetting Unit sits within the wider Professional Standards Directorate based at 21 New street.
About the role
To support the Force Vetting Unit. To ensure that systems, processes and practices are maintained and supported in accordance with relevant best practice, policy and legislation. To ensure that individuals working with or for the Force have an acceptable level of integrity so as to guarantee that they do not pose an undue threat to the security of the police, government or sensitive information, systems assets, premises and persons.
In accordance with best practice, to conduct confidential and rigorous vetting enquiries on behalf of the City of London Police Community with outside Forces, Military, HM Government and other agencies in support of the Force Vetting Policy, and Home Office and National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) national guidelines.
To maintain personnel security procedures, to include conducting spot-checks on individuals to monitor compliance with vetting policies within the City of London Police.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Interrogate and research the Police National Computer, the Force Crime Reporting and Information database, Force Intelligence Systems, the Complaints System and other related computer systems, including financial systems belonging to credit agencies, for the purpose of the confidential vetting of personnel. To use own judgement to identify other sources of information for the purpose of validating information supplied and then identify whether any findings require further investigation, before making decisions and recommendations.
- Identify detailed information, required to contribute towards the security assessment of an applicant’s suitability to have access to City of London Police premises, assets, equipment or information, without unacceptable risk to the well being of any individual, justice or the integrity and reputation of the City of London Police or wider Police Service.
- Liaise and make enquiries as appropriate with other forces, agencies and HM Government departments in relation to the gathering of information and supporting material on an individual.
- Contribute to the decision-making process by accurately and comprehensively recording and reporting information gathered on an individual in such a manner as to identify and concisely evidence any perceived vulnerability.
- Inform the Vetting Manager, in confidence, of any identified or potential welfare issues becoming apparent during the vetting process.
Requirements

Understanding of security vetting and in particular, post holders should possess an understanding of the threats to City of London Police security and integrity. Must have previous experience of working within a vetting environment and experience of completing risk assessments and analysing multiple sources of information.
Proven excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills to be able to:
- Deal confidently and effectively with people at all levels across the social spectrum and from all backgrounds.
- Establish a high degree of trust, rapport and cooperation with individuals.
- Demonstrate a high level of tact, sensitivity and maturity in outlook.
- Be confident and articulate in all communications i.e. face to face, telephone and written work.
- Address groups and individuals, deliver messages and answer questions concisely with sound factual reasoning.
- Ability to act on facts and be objective, unprejudiced and impartial in dealing with others and forming dispassionate interpretations, having regard for the law, relevant guidelines and best practice.
This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK. Also, due to this role requiring MV/SC level vetting, you need to have continuously resided in the UK for the last 5 years. This residency needs to be in the immediate 5 years prior to this application. The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
