The firm employs over 50 fully trained professionals, including solicitors, paralegals, trainees, and support staff, each specialising in specific areas of law. Dodds Solicitors LLP holds contracts with the Legal Aid Agency and is accredited with the Lexcel Practice Management Standard by the Law Society of England and Wales, enabling the delivery of both private and legal aid services. With over 30 years of experience, the firm has a strong track record in handling complex family matters, children disputes, and broader civil and commercial cases. The team is diverse in background and experience, and is committed to providing accessible, client-focused legal support.

Role Description This is a full-time or part time role, on-site Family Legal Secretary role based in Leicester. The Family Legal Secretary will provide administrative and legal support to family law solicitors, including preparing, formatting, and managing legal documents such as court forms, statements, and correspondence. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing diaries, arranging client appointments, organizing meetings and hearings, and maintaining accurate case files and records. The role will involve handling telephone and email enquiries, liaising with clients, courts, and external agencies, and ensuring that all documentation is filed and processed in line with firm procedures and regulatory requirements. The Family Legal Secretary will also assist with billing, file opening and closing, and general clerical tasks to support the smooth running of the family law department.

Qualifications

Strong foundation in family Law and an understanding of court processes and procedures is desirable.
Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading legal correspondence and forms.
Experience working as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary, ideally within a family law department.
Solid Clerical Skills, including accurate typing, document management, and file organization.
Effective Diary Management capabilities, including scheduling hearings, meetings, and client appointments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and empathetic client-facing manner.
Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, and capability to work to deadlines.
Competence with legal case management systems and standard office software (e.g., MS Office).
Previous experience in a UK law firm and familiarity with Legal Aid processes are advantageous.

This is a role to support a Fee Earner long term and is not suitable for law graduates looking for experience to qualify.
