Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a Accounts Manager on a part-time basis to cover maternity leave within our finance team. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day financial administration of the business, ensuring accurate financial records, timely processing of transactions, effective credit control, and the provision of reliable financial information to support business decision-making. They will take ownership of the finance function and work closely with the owner, external accountants, suppliers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

Maintain accurate accounting records using the company's accounting software.
Manage sales and purchase ledgers.
Process invoices, credit notes, and supplier payments.
Reconcile bank accounts and company credit card statements.
Prepare monthly management information and financial reports.
Assist with budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
Monitor company expenditure and identify any discrepancies.

Credit Control

Manage customer accounts and debt collection activities.
Chase outstanding invoices and maintain positive customer relationships.
Produce aged debtor reports.
Escalate overdue accounts where appropriate.

Payroll & Benefits

Prepare payroll information for processing.
Liaise with external payroll providers.
Administer pension contributions and statutory payments.
Maintain employee payroll records.

VAT & Compliance

Prepare and submit VAT information.
Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
Maintain financial records in line with statutory obligations.
Support year-end accounts preparation and audits.

Reporting

Produce weekly and monthly financial reports.
Monitor cash flow and provide updates to management.
Support the preparation of annual budgets.
Provide ad hoc financial analysis as required.

Administration

Maintain finance-related policies and procedures.
Support business administration where required.
Manage finance filing systems and document retention.
Liaise with external accountants, banks, and auditors.

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous experience in a similar Accounts Manager, Finance Manager, or Senior Accounts role.
Strong working knowledge of Sage
Experience of payroll administration.
Excellent reconciliation and bookkeeping skills.
Strong organisational and time management abilities.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.

Desirable

AAT qualified or studying towards a finance qualification.
Experience within an SME environment.
Experience of implementing or improving financial processes.

Pay: £17.63-£19.23 per hour
