We’re looking for an experienced and proactive EHS Chemist to join our Environmental, Health & Safety team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in supporting our manufacturing operations, driving environmental compliance, and helping us maintain the highest standards of workplace safety while contributing to the continued growth of our site.

Shift Pattern: 7:00am – 7:00pm | 4 days on, 4 days off

Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and safety observations.

Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions.
-
Analyse trends and recommend improvements to reduce future risks and strengthen site safety performance.
-
Conduct environmental monitoring activities, including velocity testing, swab sampling, and stack VOC monitoring.
-
Maintain and monitor fume cupboards and associated control systems.
-
Support compliance with environmental regulations and internal standards through accurate testing and reporting.

Prepare and analyse samples using advanced analytical techniques.

Operate and maintain key laboratory instrumentation, including:

ICP-MS
-
Gas Chromatography (GC)
-
Ion Chromatography (IC)
-
Interpret analytical results and communicate findings through clear technical reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Manage the characterisation and bulking of hazardous waste streams.
-
Work closely with approved waste contractors to ensure compliant and sustainable disposal practices.

Prepare waste shipments and maintain accurate waste records, invoices, and compliance documentation.

Maintain COSHH assessments and risk assessments across the site.
-
Review and update procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.

Support audits, inspections, and continuous compliance activities.
-
Respond to chemical spills and environmental incidents.
-
Perform pH testing and emergency phosphorus checks when required.

Provide analytical support during weekends and unplanned events to minimise operational and environmental risks.

Contribute to the ongoing development of EHS programmes and initiatives.

Partner with colleagues across operations, engineering, and facilities teams to enhance safety, environmental performance, and sustainability.

Support projects that drive operational excellence and regulatory best practice.

Provide technical EHS input into the expansion of chemical operations across the site.

Help ensure growth plans are delivered safely while maintaining high operational and environmental standards.

Degree (or higher qualification) in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.

Experience working in an EHS, analytical chemistry, chemical manufacturing, or industrial environment.

Knowledge of hazardous waste management, environmental monitoring, and regulatory compliance.

Understanding of COSHH assessments and risk management principles.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.

Hands-on experience with ICP-MS, Gas Chromatography (GC), and Ion Chromatography (IC).

Experience supporting EHS programmes within a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
