Full job description

We’re looking for a Maintenance Controller to join our team, based in Felixstowe.

This role is responsible for coordinating and controlling vehicle and trailer maintenance activities to ensure safety, compliance and operational availability.

Role details:

Location: Felixstowe

Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:30, 42.5 hours per week

Salary: £30,000–£32,000 depending on experience

Holiday: 31 days including Bank Holidays

Reporting to Depot Manager

What the role involves:

- You’ll authorise maintenance and repair work, liaise with suppliers, service providers, technicians, drivers, customers and other depots, and support customers during both breakdowns and scheduled servicing.

Key duties include:

- Authorising maintenance and repair work in line with company standards and procedures

- Assessing maintenance requirements using mechanical knowledge

- Coordinating and managing vehicle and trailer breakdowns

- Communicating with customers about scheduled servicing, MOTs and maintenance requirements

- Liaising with technicians, drivers, depots and external suppliers

- Supporting the ongoing management and continuity of the maintenance department

- Taking responsibility for the daily running of the maintenance department in the supervisor’s absence, once fully trained

- Maintaining accurate records for maintenance activity, authorisations and communications

- Working independently and as part of a team to meet operational priorities

We’re looking for someone with:

- Good mechanical knowledge

- Clear and professional telephone communication, especially with breakdowns and time-critical issues

- Confidence dealing with customers, drivers, technicians, suppliers and colleagues

- Good decision-making skills within agreed authority levels

- Strong organisation and attention to detail

- Previous experience in maintenance control, fleet, transport or workshop environments

- Knowledge of servicing schedules, inspections and MOT requirements would be beneficial

- A calm, methodical and reliable approach in a busy operational environment

The role will support key performance areas including maintenance control, downtime management, compliance, communication, accurate record keeping and the reliable day-to-day operation of the maintenance function.
