About EHS Projects
EHS Projects is a growing environmental, health and safety consultancy, supporting organisations across the UK to manage their legal compliance obligations and deliver safer, more efficient operations.
Working across a range of highly regulated industries- including food and drink, chemicals, engineering, waste, aviation and data centres - we pride ourselves on building long-term partnerships with our clients. Our team combines strategic thinking with practical, hands-on support, helping businesses achieve continuous improvement whilst maintaining the highest standards of compliance.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking to recruit a Finance & HR Coordinator following the planned retirement of our current postholder, who has been a valued member of the team for over 15 years.
This is a genuinely rare opportunity.
Rather than stepping into a role with little support, you'll spend several months working alongside the current postholder, giving you the opportunity to learn the business, understand our systems and build confidence before taking full ownership of the role later this year.
We're far more interested in finding the right person than someone who ticks every box. If you're organised, dependable, enjoy taking ownership and are looking to become an important part of a supportive and growing business, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Opportunity
This is a varied role that combines finance, HR and wider business support.
You'll work closely with our Directors, supporting both EHS Projects and our associated company, helping ensure the business continues to operate smoothly whilst identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes along the way.
Approximately:
- 60-70% of the role focuses on finance and bookkeeping.
- 20% supports our HR function.
- 10% covers wider office and business support.
You'll become one of the central people within the business, supporting colleagues throughout their employment whilst ensuring our financial processes remain organised, accurate and efficient.
This isn't simply about maintaining what already exists.
We're looking for someone who enjoys improving the way things are done, embraces technology and likes finding smarter, more efficient ways of working.
You'll primarily use systems including Xero and Brightmine, whilst working closely with our external accountants and leadership team.
This is a role where you'll be trusted, given autonomy and encouraged to make the position your own.
Your role will include:
Finance
- Managing the day-to-day financial administration across both businesses using Xero.
- Producing invoices, managing credit control and processing supplier payments.
- Preparing information for VAT returns and working alongside our external accountants.
- Coordinating payroll, expenses and weekly reporting for key clients.
Human Resources
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and employee administration.
- Coordinating payroll, pensions, holiday records and HR documentation.
- Assisting with appraisals, training and wider employee development.
- Helping ensure HR policies and processes remain compliant and up to date.
Business Support
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of our Sheffield office.
- Organising office administration, meetings and company events.
- Working closely with the Directors on a variety of operational tasks.
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, embrace technology and increase efficiency.
No two days are ever quite the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and likes being involved across multiple areas of a business.
You'll fit in well if you are:
- Experienced in finance, bookkeeping or accounts administration, ideally with Xero or similar accounting software.
- Comfortable supporting HR activities such as payroll, recruitment, onboarding and employee administration.
- Highly organised, proactive and able to balance multiple priorities with excellent attention to detail.
- Someone who enjoys improving processes, embracing technology and taking ownership of your work.
- A confident communicator who enjoys supporting colleagues and working as part of a close-knit team.
- Reliable, trustworthy and looking for a varied, long-term role where you can genuinely make a difference.
Whilst qualifications such as AAT or HR-related certifications would be welcomed, we're equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate the right attitude, transferable experience and willingness to learn.
Why join EHS Projects?
We're looking for someone to become a long-term member of our team, and in return we'll provide an environment where you can genuinely enjoy coming to work.
You'll benefit from:
- A comprehensive handover from the current postholder before retirement, giving you the time and support to confidently step into the role.
- Flexible, part-time working hours with hybrid working available.
- A varied role combining finance, HR and business support, where no two days are the same.
- The opportunity to work closely with the Directors and become a key part of a growing business.
- The chance to improve processes, embrace new technology and help shape how the role develops.
- A friendly, collaborative working environment with ongoing support and development.
- Long-term stability within a well-established and growing business.
Please note
The advertised salary of £28,000-£31,000, is the full-time equivalent (FTE) salary. As this is a part-time role, the successful candidate will receive a pro rata salary based on their contracted hours.
