Room Leader – Explorers RoomLocation

Bridges Day Nursery, Headcorn

Responsible to

Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager

Job Purpose

To lead the day-to-day running of the Explorers Room, supporting children aged 18 months to 2.5 years within a safe, nurturing and engaging environment.

The Room Leader will be responsible for maintaining high standards of care, learning and safeguarding while supporting children through an important stage of independence, communication and emotional development.

The role includes leading and supporting the room team, building strong parent partnerships and ensuring high-quality practice in line with the EYFS and Bridges Day Nursery values.

At Bridges Day Nursery, we recognise the importance of attracting the right person for our team. While this role is advertised as a Room Leader position, we are happy to discuss and negotiate working days, hours and working patterns for the right candidate.

Main ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support

Lead and support the staff team within the Explorers Room on a daily basis
Act as a positive role model and maintain high professional standards
Support staff development, mentoring and teamwork within the room
Work closely with management to maintain consistency and high standards across the nursery
Support room organisation, routines and staff deployment throughout the day
Create a calm, positive and welcoming atmosphere for children, families and staff

Children's Care & Learning

Provide high-quality care and learning opportunities in line with the EYFS
Support children’s communication, language, independence and emotional development
Plan and provide engaging activities based around children’s interests and next steps
Ensure observations, assessments and planning are completed to a high standard
Support children through transitions, routines and social development
Promote positive behaviour through warm, consistent and nurturing approaches
Encourage curiosity, exploration and confidence through play-based learning
Support toileting, self-care and growing independence appropriately for age and stage

Safeguarding & Welfare

Follow all safeguarding, child protection and whistleblowing procedures
Ensure children’s safety and wellbeing remains the highest priority
Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and health and safety within the room
Ensure ratios are maintained at all times
Support safe sleep, intimate care, nappy changing and mealtime routines appropriately
Administer medication and complete records where required
Carry out regular risk assessments and daily safety checks

Parent Partnerships

Build warm, professional and trusting relationships with parents and carers
Provide clear daily feedback regarding children’s care, routines and development
Support settling-in sessions and transitions within the nursery
Work closely with families to support children’s individual needs and routines

Operational Responsibilities

Ensure nursery policies and procedures are followed consistently
Maintain accurate records and documentation
Support with opening and closing duties where required
Assist with room preparation, displays and learning environments
Work flexibly across the nursery when required

Person SpecificationEssential

Level 3 Early Years qualification or above
Experience working with children under 3 years old within an early years setting
Strong understanding of child development and the EYFS
Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Strong communication and organisational skills
Ability to lead and motivate a team
A calm, caring and nurturing approach

Desirable

Previous Room Leader or Senior Practitioner experience
Paediatric First Aid qualification
Safeguarding training
Experience supporting staff development
Knowledge of Ofsted expectations and inspection requirements
