Full job description

Job Purpose

The Hod Carrier is responsible for supporting bricklayers and other trades by transporting materials, maintaining a safe and tidy work area, and ensuring materials and equipment are readily available to keep construction activities running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Carry bricks, blocks, mortar, and other construction materials to work areas.
Load and unload deliveries safely.
Assist bricklayers by ensuring a continuous supply of materials.
Mix mortar using the correct ratios and methods when required.
Operate wheelbarrows, hoists, and other manual handling equipment safely.
Assist with setting up work areas and preparing materials.
Maintain good housekeeping by keeping work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
Remove waste materials and dispose of them in designated skips.
Assist with moving equipment, tools, and materials around the site.
Follow instructions from the Site Manager, Supervisor, or Bricklaying Foreman.
Report defects, hazards, near misses, and accidents immediately.
Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures and site rules.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Comply with all Health and Safety legislation and site-specific rules.
Carry out manual handling tasks safely and use mechanical aids where appropriate.
Maintain awareness of moving plant, lifting operations, and other site hazards.
Never work beneath suspended loads.
Participate in site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
Stop work and report any unsafe conditions immediately.
Help maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Skills and ExperienceEssential

Previous experience working on a construction site.
Good understanding of manual handling techniques.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual work.
Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.

Desirable

Experience working with bricklaying gangs.
CSCS Labourer Card (or relevant CSCS card).
Manual Handling Training.
Asbestos Awareness Training.
Working at Height Awareness.
Face Fit Test (where required).

Physical Requirements

The role involves:

Frequent lifting and carrying of materials.

Bending, kneeling, climbing, and repetitive manual tasks.

Working Hours

Hours are as required by the project and may include overtime or weekend working when necessary.

Reporting

The Hod Carrier reports directly to the Site Supervisor or Site Manager and works closely with bricklayers and other site operatives to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.

Pay: £140.00-£200.00 per day
