Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Colchester, Essex

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (plus on-call allowance)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Reporting to: Responsible Individual / Operations Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and committed Registered Manager to lead a children's residential home, providing high-quality, nurturing care for young people. You will hold day-to-day responsibility for the home's operation, ensuring it meets Ofsted's Quality Standards and that every young person is supported to thrive, feel safe, and achieve positive outcomes.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who combines strong management skills with a genuine passion for improving the lives of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

Hold registration with Ofsted as the home's Registered Manager and ensure full compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
Lead, manage, and develop the staff team, including recruitment, supervision, appraisal, and ongoing training
Develop and review individual care plans, risk assessments, and placement plans in collaboration with young people, families, and local authorities
Ensure robust safeguarding practice is embedded throughout the home, acting as the key point of contact for safeguarding concerns
Manage the home's budget, including resource allocation and cost control
Complete and act on Regulation 44 (independent visitor) and Regulation 45 (manager's review) reports
Build and maintain effective relationships with placing authorities, social workers, families, and external agencies
Promote a positive, inclusive culture that supports young people's emotional wellbeing, education, and life skills development
Participate in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours management support
Prepare for and lead on Ofsted inspections, ensuring the home consistently achieves "Good" or "Outstanding" judgements

Requirements

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Children and Young People's Residential Management), or working towards this within an agreed timeframe
Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children and young people in a residential setting, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or management capacity
Strong working knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and relevant safeguarding legislation
Proven experience managing and developing staff teams
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
Full UK driving licence (desirable)
