Pattern of Work – 42 hours, shifts

What you need to know about the role

Working as a Shift Manager at British Steel you will manage all aspects of shift based manufacturing operations in order to meet the business performance objectives, ensuring safety is of the highest priority.

Your day to day duties will be to maintain the smooth running of a very busy port environment which operates on a 24/7 basis. This can be achieved through the effective management of vessel discharge, train and lorry outload, stock yard organisation, liaising with engineering teams and adhering to strict Health, Safety and Environmental Policies.

Leading your team, you will manage all aspects of operations in order to meet agreed departmental objectives in accordance with the manufacturing plan whilst ensuring service providers, internal and external, achieve departmental objectives within budget and service level agreements.

To achieve team flexibility you will determine the training and development requirements for the shift teams to achieve the operational plan.

What we need to know about you

We’re looking for candidates who are ideally experienced in a similar role within a port, manufacturing or heavy engineering background.

You need to be highly motivated and driven to achieve results. As you will be leading a team, communication is vital to the success of this role. Supervisory experience and effective man-management skills are also essential.

Knowledge and understanding of our plant operations and an appreciation of our customer requirements will able be beneficial.
