Verixus Labs is building AI-driven optimisation systems for biomanufacturing and biotechnology R&D. We work at the intersection of machine learning, experimental biology, and process optimisation to accelerate biological development workflows.
We are seeking a Cell Culture Scientist to join our team on a fixed-term contract of approximately two months. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting laboratory operations, performing mammalian cell culture activities, and training team members in core laboratory techniques.
This is a hands-on laboratory position focused on the execution of established protocols rather than process development or independent research. A key objective of the role is to transfer practical laboratory knowledge and help build internal capability in routine cell culture and laboratory operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience with mammalian cell culture, strong laboratory skills, and the ability to effectively train and mentor others in established laboratory procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine mammalian cell culture activities, including:
- Cell maintenance
- Passaging
- Freezing and thawing
- Preparation of cultures for experiments
- Execute laboratory experiments according to established protocols
- Train and mentor team members in standard laboratory techniques and best practices
- Demonstrate and supervise core laboratory procedures, ensuring techniques are performed consistently and correctly
- Support knowledge transfer through clear documentation of laboratory procedures and workflows
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and experimental documentation
- Prepare reagents, media, and consumables required for experiments
- Support inventory management and day-to-day laboratory organisation
- Maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces in accordance with established procedures
- Report experimental observations and results to the wider team
- Adhere to laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practice
Requirements
- Degree in Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related life sciences discipline
- Practical experience with mammalian cell culture
- Experience training, mentoring, supervising, or teaching laboratory techniques to others
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols accurately
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good laboratory record-keeping and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage routine laboratory activities
Desirable Experience
- Experience with CHO cell culture
- Experience freezing, thawing, and maintaining suspension cell lines
- Experience working in a biotechnology, bioprocessing, or academic research laboratory
- Experience creating laboratory documentation, protocols, or training materials
Contract Details
- Fixed-term contract of approximately 2 months
- Start date flexible, with immediate availability preferred
- London-based laboratory role
- Competitive compensation based on experience
