Decisions about donor files and the suitability of donated tissue are among the most important that are made here at NHS Blood & Transplant. Because those calls save lives. And sometimes there’s a ticking clock. Getting the decisions right takes a clinical expert with specialist knowledge, great empathy, and superb communication skills. That’s where you come in.
As our recognised expert for the clinical sign-off of live and deceased donor files, you’ll make vital decisions about the suitability of donated tissue. You’ll support two vital programmes here at NHSBT: Autologous and Allogenic Serum Eye Drops and Live Surgical Bone. Whether or not you authorise suitability, you’ll be helping to save the lives of patients and change the lives of their families.
You will be responsible and recognised as the clinical expert for the clinical sign off of live and deceased donor files. Your duties will include:-
- Clinically supporting the Autologous and Allogeneic serum eye drops programme.

Clinically supporting the live surgical bone programme as required with regards to authorising files for clinical suitability.

Responsibility for the timely and effective management of authorising deceased donor files which includes time restricted ocular files.

Accountability for clinical decision making regarding the suitability of donated tissue for transplantation and research.

You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
Experience and Knowledge
- Demonstrates experience of planning implementing and evaluating change.

Demonstrates awareness of performance objectives and organisational targets.

Demonstrates experience of clinical teaching.

Demonstrates an understanding and evidence participation in principles of clinical audit, data collection and research.

Demonstrates involvement in personal and professional development for self.

Demonstrates an awareness of current issues in nursing.

Experience in dealing with bereaved families.

Experience in communicating with a wide range of senior professionals internal and external to the organisation.
Qualifications and Training

Possesses NMC registration (Part1 or Part 12 of the register) as a registered nurse, with at least two years post registration experience.

Educated to degree level or equivalent level of specialist knowledge gained through formal training and work experience in clinical research

Possesses basic computer skills.

Possesses a teaching/assessing qualification, e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent.

Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
