We are currently seeking an experienced Rope Access Coatings Inspector to join our project team from 20th July to 31st August (subject to change). This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with a strong background in coating inspection, surface preparation and quality control within the fabric maintenance industry.
Overall Purpose of Role:
The Coatings Inspectors roles are appointed as competent persons to verify that surface preparations are suitable conditions for paint system applications to steel work, vessels and tank internals. That the environmental conditions are within the paint systems specifications. The manufacturer’s specifications are adhered to and the compliance of application procedures. The Coatings Inspector will ensure themselves and their team work in-line with Client Site Rules and the Applus UK Ltd Safe Working Operating Procedure. The role is all in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures to deliver the highest safety quality and business management standards.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
The Roles and Responsibilities of the Coatings Inspector will include but not be limited to:-
- Maintain safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concerns.
- Operate under instruction from FM QA/QC Lead, Rope Access Project Manager or Service Coordinators.
- Perform inspections and testing in accordance with the guidance specified in the relative Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and appropriate references, such as project specification(s), internal (work) instructions, industry standards, reporting formats.
- Ensure overall end to end compliance with project specification(s) and Client requirements.
- Record ambient conditions to ensure they are acceptable for the required process output.
- Ensure that material is stored and handled in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements, data sheets are available, when required, material traceability is maintained and that the correct material is used.
- Monitor performance of our painting / blasting personnel to ensure “Applicators” carry out their works to the contracted requirements and, where appropriate, the equipment being used is in a serviceable condition.
- Ensure inspection and test equipment is serviceable before use, with a valid current “In Calibration” period and that inspection personnel are knowledgeable in its use.
- Ensure blast medium and coating materials conform to project specifications.
- Ensure surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness meet requirements.
- Monitor dry film thickness and re-coating intervals.
- Ensure any identification marks or tags that are removed or overcoated are replaced.
- After the designated curing activity for overcoating or completion, conduct a visual inspection together with specified non-destructive and / or destructive tests.
- Prepare daily reports on agreed format(s) for the status of work and progress.
- Support internal or third-party audits of the Company’s quality control system.
- Timely inspection during all aspects of preparation and coating works and proactive in the prevention and resolution of non-compliance issues.
- Liaise with QA/QC Lead and/or ICORR/NACE Level 2 to ensure all works are completed to required standards and reporting is in accordance with procedure.
- Liaise with Client representative(s) for inspection and data output
Qualifications and Experiences
Essential:
- ICORR Level 2 or NACE Level 2 Minimum
- IRATA – Any Level
- Technical coating experience to include the following:
- Painting and coating specifications
- Flaw/discontinuity identification and classification
- Blasting and surface parameters
- Painting techniques
- Coating repair systems
- CCNSG, IOSHH or Safety Passport Equivalent
- High level of site-based knowledge
- Physically Fit to carry out role
- Ability to adapt to change
- Ability to lead a team
- Fundamental Computer literacy
- First Aid Certificate
- Problem solving
- Technical background within the Fabric Maintenance Industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of blasting, surface preparation and spraying equipment
Desirable:
- Technical Skills: Operation and maintenance of machinery, ability to troubleshoot problems, use of hand tools.
- Communication Skills: Verbal and written
- Team Working Skills: Ability to supervise a range of professions, ages, experiences and abilities.

- TTP Gold or TTP Supervisor Certificate
- Holding a valid MEWP certificate would be advantageous.
- PASMA tower certification would be advantageous

Pay: £24.50-£35.00 per hour
