Experienced Butcher – Ben's Farm Shop, Staverton

Full-time | 40 hours per week | Staverton, Devon

We're looking for a skilled and passionate Butcher to join the busy butchery team at Ben's Farm Shop, based at our original farm shop in Staverton.

Our Staverton butchery is the heart of our business, combining a thriving retail counter with a busy production butchery that supplies our other farm shops and kitchens. We're proud of the quality and provenance of our meat, working closely with trusted local farmers so we know exactly where our livestock comes from and how it's been raised. This enables us to offer our customers not only exceptional products but also expert knowledge and advice.

About the Role

As part of our experienced team, you'll work across both our retail and production operations, helping to maintain the high standards our customers expect.

From our Staverton site we prepare and supply carcasses, primals and retail cuts to our butchery counters in Yealmpton and Exeter, as well as pre-packed meat for our Totnes shop. We also produce a wide range of handmade products including:

Traditional sausages
Dry-cured and sliced bacon
Burgers and meatballs
Kebabs and skewers
Meat stocks
Seasonal products
A growing range of cured meats

Developing our cured meat offering is an exciting area of growth, and we're looking for someone who can bring experience, ideas and enthusiasm to help expand this part of the business.

Our retail counter is all about delivering outstanding customer service. You'll enjoy engaging with customers, offering advice on cuts, cooking methods and product selection while ensuring the counter is always well presented and fully stocked.

In production, you'll work to weekly production schedules, maintaining excellent quality, consistency and efficiency while following established recipes and food safety procedures.

About You

We're looking for an experienced butcher who is confident in both retail and production butchery, or someone with strong experience in one area and a willingness to develop new skills.

Ideally, you'll have:

Previous experience in a retail and/or production butchery
Relevant butchery qualifications (desirable)
Experience producing value-added products, with cured meat experience being a distinct advantage
A genuine passion for quality food and traditional butchery
Excellent customer service and communication skills
A reliable, self-motivated and energetic approach
Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety standards
Basic IT skills (full training on our systems will be provided)
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and bank holidays

Hours

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours over 5 days per week. Shift patterns may vary and will include weekend and bank holiday working.
