Senior RIBA Architect
£30,000 - £34,800 per annum (equivalent to £50,000 - £58,555 for a full time equivalent position)
Overview
We are a small, dynamic and growing architectural practice based in West Sussex, specialising in high-quality domestic extensions, bespoke new homes and select commercial projects. As we expand, the founding director is looking for a talented Senior Architect to step into a pivotal role, helping to run the practice, lead projects and shape the future of the studio.
The Role and Flexibility
This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious RIBA Chartered Architect with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience to help lead a growing regional practice. This is a 3 day a week position requiring one day a week in the office (subject to project timelines and local site visits), with the remaining two days worked remotely. As the practice grows, there is potential for this baseline of hours to increase. Paid overtime, subject to project need, is also a possibility.
Duties
- Comprehensive Project Delivery: Ability to work independently across all RIBA design stages as needed. Confident and proactive in communicating with the director and other designers/contractors involved in a project to ensure cohesive outcomes.
- Technical Design & Coordination: Competence at Stage 4 technical design, leading the preparation of detailed construction drawings.
- Engineering Integration: Demonstrate a proven track record of independently integrating engineering design and proactively liaising with structural engineers.
- Regulatory Compliance: Apply an excellent working knowledge of both Building Regulations and Approved Documents, confidently justifying design decisions to building control officers, clients and within drawing annotations.
- Project Handover & Compliance: Oversee the final stages of construction, including the production of health and safety files and helping manage end-of-contract administration.
- Practice Development: Actively contribute to developing office systems, standard workflows, and Vectorworks drawing templates to streamline the practice's growth.
- Digital Profile: Assisting the director to develop the practice's online profile and branding visibility (desired but not essential).
Requirements & Experience
- RIBA Chartered Architect with a minimum of 5 years post-Part 3 experience.
- Vectorworks: Advanced proficiency in Vectorworks ideal but not essential, with the ability to help set up standard templates and office systems within the software.
- Sector Expertise: Strong background in UK domestic/residential projects; commercial experience is a strong advantage.
- Communication: Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently lead client meetings, collaborate with consultants, and represent the practice on-site.
- Autonomy: Highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote or hybrid small-team setup.
- Digital Profile Support: Assist the Director with producing/selecting key drawings, details or project data to help shape and launch the practice's upcoming digital profile and portfolio.
- Must have: the right to work in the UK and a valid driving licence for West Sussex site visits.
