JOB PURPOSE
To lead and coordinate Sports Connects HR, People and Culture function, ensuring safe, compliant and values-led people processes across recruitment, onboarding, staff records, performance reviews, CPD, retention, wellbeing and offboarding. The role will lead the operational delivery of Sports Connects HR, People and Culture function, providing expert guidance and support to Directors and managers whilst ensuring compliant and effective people practices across the organisation, maintain accurate staff files and HR dashboards, strengthen staff engagement and recognition, and embed a positive culture aligned to Sports Connect values and expectations.
The postholder will need strong written and spoken communication skills, high attention to detail, confidence handling confidential information, and the ability to produce clear reports and KPI updates for Directors, managers and relevant external partners when required.
The successful candidate will lead and coordinate the day-to-day HR function across Sports Connect, acting as the first point of contact for all people-related matters. Whilst responsible for the operational delivery of HR processes and procedures, they will be supported by an external HR Consultant who provides specialist advice on employment law, complex employee relations matters and HR best practice when required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Lead end-to-end recruitment administration, including adverts, shortlisting support, interview coordination, safer recruitment checks and time-to-hire tracking, with the aim of filling roles required for Sports Connect.
· Own the new starter onboarding process, ensuring completion of ID, right-to-work, contract, induction, training record, DBS and reference checks before or immediately at commencement of employment.
· Maintain accurate, GDPR-compliant staff files and HR tracking logs, updating staff records and preparing evidence for quarterly HR audits.
· Coordinate offboarding for leavers, including resignation records, exit checklist, equipment return and final payroll actions, with documentation completed wherever possible.
· Produce a quarterly HR dashboard for Directors covering recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, staff retention, turnover, appraisal completion, CPD compliance, wellbeing engagement, recognition activity and values/culture indicators.
· Support staff retention by monitoring turnover trends, highlighting risk areas and working with managers to retain key roles and maintain appropriate levels of annual staff turnover.
· Coordinate the appraisal and performance review cycle, ensuring reviews are scheduled, completed, recorded and followed up with clear objectives and development actions.
· Maintain the staff development and CPD tracker, ensuring mandatory training, qualifications and reflective learning evidence are recorded and followed up with staff and line managers.
· Lead quarterly staff culture and wellbeing engagement activity, including surveys, check-ins and feedback themes, with action plans to support positive workplace culture and staff wellbeing.
· Deliver and record termly staff reward, recognition or celebration activity, ensuring achievements and positive behaviours are recognised consistently across the organisation.
· Champion Sports Connect values and P.A.C.T. culture through recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal and everyday HR processes, escalating concerns or behaviour patterns appropriately.
· Provide practical advice to Directors and managers on HR policies, absence, holiday, return to work, conduct, capability, probation, flexible working, staff welfare and employment process, seeking external HR/legal support where matters are complex or high-risk.[ST1]
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Safeguarding:
Essential-
· Sports Connect is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults. The candidate's ability to perform duties aligned to safeguarding and Prevent strategies within this role will be explored during the interview process.
· A Sports Connect DBS will be carried out if offered the role.
· Ability to maintain safe recruitment processes, DBS tracking and confidential safeguarding-related HR records.
Desirable-
· An enhanced DBS no older than 3 months.
· Experience of safer recruitment or HR in a youth, education, sport, charity or regulated setting.
Education, qualifications, training and work experience:
Essential-
· CIPD Level 3 or equivalent HR experience, or willingness to work towards a relevant HR qualification.
· Experience of HR administration, recruitment, onboarding, staff records and confidential employee documentation.
· Strong working knowledge of right-to-work, DBS, references, contracts, probation and employment documentation.
Desirable-
· CIPD Level 5 or working towards it.
· Experience in a small organisation, charity, social enterprise, sport, education or youth setting.
· Training in safer recruitment, mental health first aid, coaching, mediation or equality, diversity and inclusion.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
Essential-
· Clear understanding of HR policy, employee lifecycle processes, performance review coordination, CPD tracking, absence monitoring and staff wellbeing processes.
· Able to manage sensitive information with discretion, professionalism and GDPR awareness.
· Confident advising managers while knowing when to escalate complex employment relations matters.
· Highly organised, accurate and able to maintain audit-ready HR records within a part-time work pattern.
Desirable-
· Experience creating HR dashboards, staff surveys and improvement action plans.
· Knowledge of HR systems or digital staff record platforms.
· Experience supporting payroll inputs, annual leave records or benefits administration.
Project Delivery:
Essential-
· Able to plan and deliver HR improvement projects including onboarding refresh, appraisal cycles, staff surveys, CPD audits and recognition activity.
· Able to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and provide clear progress updates to Directors.
· Able to translate KPI measures into practical actions and follow-up tasks.
Desirable-
· Experience implementing or improving HR systems, trackers, policies or staff handbooks.
· Experience leading culture, wellbeing, EDI or organisational development initiatives.
Communication, Evaluation, Monitoring & Reporting:
Essential-
· Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills.
· Computer literate and confident producing reports, dashboards and statistical summaries.
· Able to communicate HR requirements calmly and clearly to staff, managers and external partners.

Pay: £13.45-£15.45 per hour
