About the role

Launch Your Career as a Gas Operative Apprentice

We're recruiting for Gas Operative Apprentices to join our Housing Maintenance and Developments team and develop the skills needed for a successful career in the gas and heating industry.

As a Gas Operative Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced tradespeople, supporting the delivery of high-quality repairs, maintenance, and improvement works across North Northamptonshire Council's housing properties. Combining practical, hands-on experience with formal training, you'll work towards achieving the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship, gaining the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a qualified Gas Operative. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, develop valuable trade skills, and make a real difference to our tenants and communities.

What will you be doing?

As a Gas Operative Apprentice, you'll combine practical, on-the-job experience with formal training to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a qualified Gas Operative.

You will:

Work towards achieving the Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Apprenticeship, aiming for a Pass or Distinction.
Support qualified Gas Operatives with repairs, maintenance and servicing work across North Northamptonshire Council's housing properties.
Carry out site-based tasks under the guidance of a Repairs Officer, Repairs and Maintenance Co-ordinator or Mentor, applying knowledge gained through both workplace experience and college learning.
Learn from experienced professionals, developing an understanding of the gas and heating trade and building the skills needed for a successful career.
Attend all required training, college sessions and mentoring meetings to support your development.
Continuously develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in line with the apprenticeship standard.
Follow all health and safety procedures, reporting hazards promptly and adhering to the Council's Health and Safety Management System at all times.
Assist with a range of duties including trade work, labouring activities and administrative tasks as required.
Work in a variety of environments and weather conditions while safely handling tools, equipment and materials.

About you

GCSE Maths and English at grades A-C or 4-9 or equivalent is Essential.
