Full job description

Job Title: Warehouse Operative Full Time
Location: Phoenix Steel, Simonside , South Shields
Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor

Job Purpose:

The overall purpose of this role is to ensure customers’ orders are fulfilled to the highest standards in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Order Picking & Preparation

Accurately pick and prepare orders as per customer requirements including measuring and cutting.

Ensure products are correctly labelled and prepared for dispatch.

Ensure paperwork is completed correctly, in full and on time.

Deal with customer collections.

2. Loading & Unloading

Safely load and unload vehicles, ensuring loads are secure.

Assist with vehicle movements within the warehouse and act as a ‘Banksman’ when required.

3. Stock Control, Rotation & Storage

Transfer stock to its location using a Forklift truck & Overhead Crane

Conduct regular stock checks and report any discrepancies.

Ensure correct stock rotation to minimise wastage and maintain stock accuracy.

Notify Supervisor when stock or consumables (e.g., banding materials) are running low.

4. Machinery Operation

Operate overhead cranes, attachments, saws, guillotines, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.

Assist with sawing, shearing, decoiling, picking operations and movement of materials as needed.

5. Health & Safety

Accountable for own health & safety and that of others who could be affected by your actions.

Adhere to all health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, carrying out operations in accordance with standards.

Always wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Report any incidents, near-misses, safety hazards or concerns immediately to your Supervisor or the company’s Health & Safety Officer.

Ensure material is stored and disposed of in accordance with requirements.

6. Communication & Coordination

Work effectively under the direction of management

Maintain good communication with warehouse supervisors and office staff.

Work efficiently and effectively as part of a team and on your own.

Compliance with the company’s policies and procedures.

Liaise with the transport department to ensure timely preparation and loading of orders.

Update transport boards with relevant information.

7. Housekeeping & General Duties

Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the warehouse.

Assist in keeping working areas and walkways clear and safe.

Support other team members as required to ensure warehouse efficiency.

8. Continuous Improvement

Participate in training and development to enhance skills.

Contribute to the ongoing improvement of warehouse operations and efficiency.

Be adaptable and flexible in approach to work to meet operational requirements.

9. Other Duties

Carry out any additional tasks required to support business operations.
