Join the UK’s fastest growing travel company!
We are looking for an experienced Regional Transport Supervisor to join our sector-leading travel and leisure business, taking responsibility for our transport operations across Washington.
Since launch, we have established Caledonian Travel as the largest operator of short breaks and holidays by coach across the UK, culminating in winning The Best Large Travel Company for Coach Holidays at the British Travel Awards. We have also developed ukbreakaways into a popular choice for customers and one of the leading operators of entertainment-based Tribute breaks in the UK, while achieving the Feefo Platinum Award two years running for “continually offering excellence”, alongside an “Excellent” Trustpilot rating.
This is a busy, demanding and highly operational role requiring an experienced transport professional who is confident managing a fast-moving operation.
As Regional Transport Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring our vehicles and drivers are safely, legally and efficiently dispatched to deliver our programme of coach holidays and breaks.
You will need to be comfortable making decisions under pressure, dealing with operational challenges as they arise and coordinating multiple priorities at the same time. The role also forms part of the on-call rota, so flexibility and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to issues outside normal working hours are essential.
- Oversee and supervise daily transport operations, ensuring vehicles and drivers are dispatched safely and on time.
- Coordinate drivers, vehicles and transport employees to meet the requirements of a busy and constantly changing operation.
- Take ownership of operational issues and disruptions, making timely decisions to minimise the impact on customers and the wider business.
- Monitor schedules, vehicle movements and route planning to maximise operational efficiency and reduce unnecessary downtime.
- Ensure full compliance with relevant transport legislation, drivers’ hours and working time regulations, safety standards and company policies.
- Ensure driver duties and schedules remain within legal driving and working time requirements.
- Oversee vehicle availability and maintenance requirements, liaising closely with Fleet Management and Maintenance teams.
- Manage operational escalations and resolve problems quickly and professionally.
- Provide leadership, guidance and support to transport teams across both locations, helping to maintain high standards of performance and accountability.
- Promote a positive, professional and safety-focused working culture.
- Liaise closely with Customer Services, Fleet Maintenance, Product, Operations and other regional offices to ensure effective communication and smooth delivery of the operation.
- Work in line with company policies and recognised best practice at all times.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and discretion.
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota, responding to operational issues when required.
We are looking for someone who is accustomed to working in a high-volume, fast-paced transport environment and who is comfortable taking responsibility when the operation becomes challenging.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience within transport, coach, bus, logistics or a similarly demanding operational environment.
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a busy transport operation.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm and decisive when dealing with disruption or unexpected operational challenges.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- A good working knowledge of transport legislation, drivers’ hours, working time requirements and safety compliance.
- Excellent organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Strong IT skills and the ability to work confidently with operational systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A flexible approach to working hours and willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
- A full valid driving licence.
- A PSV licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
This role would suit an experienced transport professional who enjoys being at the heart of a busy operation, takes pride in solving problems and is confident leading teams across multiple locations.
If you thrive in a demanding operational environment and are ready to take on responsibility, we would love to hear from you.
