Job Title: Van Driver/ General Assistant
Location: Newmarket Open Door. Charity Superstore
Reports to: Shop Manager
Salary: £12.21 per hour
Hours: 18 hour contract per week. This position is for 3 days per week with opportunity for overtime.
Our charity superstore is open Monday - Saturday, the successful candidate will be expected to work every other Saturday.
Working hours are 09:30-16:00
Position Summary:
This is a flexible role working both on our delivery van and in our charity superstore. When on the van, you’ll assist with up to six collections and deliveries per day, always working with a driver’s mate, never lone working. Manual handling training and lifting equipment are provided, as collections often involve furniture. On other days, you’ll work in the superstore, helping move stock, serving customers, and supporting general shop operations. We’re looking for someone practical, positive, and hands-on. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, organized, and committed to our cause.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Service:
- Provide friendly, professional, and efficient service to all customers.
- Assist customers with their inquiries, purchases, and returns.
- Operate the till accurately, handling cash and card transactions securely.
- Drive van to do collections and deliveries of donated goods. Manual handling training is provided.
2. Donations Handling:
- Receive and process donated items, ensuring they are of suitable quality for resale.
- Sort, price, and display items according to shop guidelines.
3. Shop Presentation:
- Ensure the shop is clean, tidy, and well-organized at all times.
- Restock shelves and displays to ensure a visually appealing shopping environment.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining stockroom.
4. Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Shop Manager and other team members to achieve sales targets and shop goals.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of shop initiatives.
- Support volunteers and assist in their training as required.
5. Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all shop policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.
- Report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to the Shop Manager promptly.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in retail or customer service is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic numeracy skills for handling transactions.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Working Conditions:
- The role requires standing for extended periods and may involve some lifting of donated goods.
- Flexible working hours, including weekends is required.
