Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples and performing related procedures with precision and care. This role requires excellent patient interaction skills, a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, and adherence to strict aseptic techniques. Prior hospital or laboratory experience is highly desirable, and the position offers an opportunity to contribute to vital diagnostic processes within a professional medical environment.

Responsibilities

Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other approved methods
Ensure proper identification and documentation of samples in accordance with hospital protocols
Maintain a sterile environment by following aseptic techniques during all procedures
Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, including labelling and packaging
Assist with catheterisation procedures when necessary and within scope of practice
Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after blood collection, providing basic life support if required
Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed and patient information
Follow health and safety guidelines diligently to minimise infection risks and ensure patient safety
Support laboratory staff with specimen processing and related tasks as needed

Qualifications

Proven experience in hospital settings or laboratory environments is preferred
Certification or training in phlebotomy recognised by relevant health authorities is essential
Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is required
Familiarity with aseptic techniques, catheterisation, and basic life support procedures is highly advantageous
Experience working with paediatric patients (pediatrics) is desirable
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping
Excellent communication skills to interact compassionately with patients of all ages
Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards of care
