Working pattern: Monday to Thursday 7.5 hours, Friday 7 hours

Weeks per Annum: 52 weeks per annum

Location: Oxford Construction Skills Centre (Cowley)

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Senior Workshop Technician (Construction) to join our growing team at the Oxford Construction Skills Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to play a key role in supporting high-quality practical learning and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our workshops. As our provision continues to expand, you will bring technical expertise, initiative and a passion for education, helping students develop essential practical skills across a range of construction disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as the lead technical specialist within the workshop, supporting teaching staff with practical delivery, materials and equipment selection.
Support and supervise students in developing their practical skills, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
Plan and deliver technical demonstrations, inductions and equipment training for students and staff.
Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the workshop, including maintaining high standards of organisation and housekeeping.
Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, including risk assessments, COSHH and safe systems of work.
Manage tools, equipment and stock, including ordering materials, liaising with suppliers and conducting regular stock audits.
Assist with equipment maintenance, fault finding and arranging servicing where necessary.

Essential:

Level 2 qualification in a relevant construction trade (or equivalent experience).
Willing to support across all the trade areas we offer, these include; plumbing, electrical installation and wood trades to which training and support will be provided.
Strong practical knowledge of workshop tools, equipment and processes.
Experience working within a construction or workshop environment.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Understanding of health and safety in a workshop or construction setting.
Ability to support students of all ages, particularly 16–18 learners.

Desirable:

Experience supervising or coordinating others.
Health and safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH) or willingness to work towards.
