Full job description

Role Purpose

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in the day-to-day running of the store and taking full responsibility in their absence. This role ensures high standards of customer service, food quality, cleanliness, health & safety, team performance, and operational efficiency, whilst helping to drive sales and profitability.

The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in leading the team, maintaining Fireaway brand standards, and creating a positive customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

Deliver exceptional customer service and always ensure customer satisfaction.
Handle customer complaints professionally and efficiently.
Implement and maintain company customer service standards and scripts.
Support local store marketing activities and community engagement to help drive sales.
Assist in achieving sales targets and store KPIs.
Maintain strong brand standards and presentation throughout the store.
Respond appropriately to customer feedback and online reviews.
Staff are actively promoting the current complementary promotions to grow own data base and recording via the POS

Store Operations

Support the daily operation of the store to ensure smooth and efficient service.
Take responsibility for store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
Conduct weekly operational evaluations and ensure company procedures are followed.
Monitor labour costs and assist with scheduling staff effectively.
Assist with stock management, ordering, and stock control.
Ensure company policies and operational procedures are fully complied with.

Food Safety & Hygiene

Ensure all team members are appropriately trained before handling food.
Maintain high food hygiene standards in line with company procedures and legal requirements.
Ensure all Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) and HACCP procedures are followed correctly.
Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the store.
Support food quality monitoring and provide feedback to staff where required.

Health & Safety

Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly health & safety checks are completed.
Act as the responsible health & safety person whilst on shift.
Ensure all fire safety, security, and emergency procedures are followed.
Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues promptly.
Promote a safe working environment for employees and customers.

Team Leadership & People Management

Lead, motivate, and support team members during shifts.
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and induction training.
Train and coach employees to maintain operational and service standards.
Encourage employee development through the Fireaway Careers Pathway.
Support multi-skilled working across the team.
Provide constructive performance feedback to staff.
Report employee performance or conduct concerns to the Store Manager.
Ensure all training records are accurately completed and documented.
Ensure staff food policy is adhered to

Quality Control

Ensure all food products meet Fireaway quality standards.
Monitor product consistency and presentation.
Support continuous improvement in store standards and customer experience.
