We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Avondale Vets on a full-time basis.
Our purpose-built practice, located at the Strathaven Rural Centre since 2009, is equipped to provide the highest standard of care to our clients and their pets.
Our team includes 2 Clinical Directors, 1 Practice Manager, 18 Veterinary Surgeons specialising in small animal, farm animal, equine and export work, a Head RVN, 2 RVNs, 1 SVN and 9 support staff.
We are committed to ongoing professional development, with several vets pursuing advanced qualifications in areas including surgery, orthopaedics and cardiology. We have also invested in laparoscopic surgical equipment and continue to expand our in-house orthopaedic services, including TPLO procedures.

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences.
You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.
Working Pattern
- Two 8:00am–7:00pm shifts each week
- Two 8:00am–5:30pm shifts each week
General Responsibilities
- Conduct nurse consultations and provide inpatient medical care
- Assist with diagnostic procedures, including cytology and urinalysis
- Undertake dental nursing duties including dental radiography, scaling and polishing
- Utilise and develop a broad range of nursing skills in a supportive clinical environment
- Focus on clinical responsibilities with support from a dedicated reception team and pharmacy dispenser
We’re looking for a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. You’ll bring:
- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
- A proactive approach to learning, reflection and continuous improvement
