Join the Team: Driver Assistant (Driver’s Mate) – Steady Wheel Transport Ltd

Steady Wheel Transport Ltd is seeking a dedicated and reliable Driver Assistant to join our professional 2-man home delivery teams. We pride ourselves on a friendly, high-quality service, and we need a proactive partner to support our drivers in delivering excellence across the North West.

The Location & Logistics

Start Point: Your day begins in Preston for vehicle collection & van checks.
Loading Hubs: From Preston, you will head to either our Warrington or Wigan depots to load the van.
The Route: Deliveries are spread across the North West, providing a varied and engaging workday.

The Role: A Balanced Workday

We deliver items of all shapes and sizes. You won't just be lifting heavy wardrobes all day; the workload is a manageable mix of:

Standard Parcels: Smaller, lighter items that keep the route moving quickly.
Larger Goods: Furniture and bulkier items that require a coordinated 2-man lift.
Light Assembly: Helping with basic flat-pack assembly (screwdrivers/basic tools) for certain customers.

Your Daily Responsibilities:

Van Prep: Assist the driver with daily basic vehicle and supply checks.
Load Security: Ensure all items are safe during transit by using ratchet straps and smart loading techniques.
Navigation: Help with route planning and communication with the warehouse to optimize efficiency.
Van Pride: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the vehicle throughout the shift.
Customer Support: Provide top-tier service, ensuring deliveries are accurate, on time, and handled with respect.

Candidate Requirements

Punctuality: Absolute reliability is required for depot arrival times (slots between 06:30–09:00).
Great Attitude: A "willing to work" mindset with a focus on teamwork and safety.
Communication: Comfortable using WhatsApp and a dedicated Drivers Line to check in and resolve issues.
Physical Fitness: Capability to perform 2-man lifts, balanced with handling lighter parcels.
Skills: Experience in assembly or delivery is a bonus, but we are happy to train someone with the right attitude.
Flexibility: Availability to work some weekends as we operate a 7-day shift pattern.
Will need to obtain a dbs if chosen
Must Always wear steel cap shoes and hivis and black work clothing
