Experienced Bookkeeper (Part-Time) – Leyland (Towngate)
Salary: £18,000 – £21,000
Hours: 21 per week
Application Deadline: 31st July
We are an accountancy practice based in Leyland, with a strong local client base alongside a growing specialism serving clients across the UK. We're looking for an experienced VAT and bookkeeping professional to take ownership of recurring bookkeeping and VAT work.
The right candidate will be comfortable working independently across Xero and QuickBooks.
What you'll be doing
- Managing a portfolio of bookkeeping and VAT clients, keeping records up to date and helping ensure internal and client deadlines are met.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns, including checking VAT treatment and investigating unusual transactions
- Day-to-day bookkeeping and data processing across Xero and QuickBooks
- Reviewing records for accuracy, completeness and VAT treatment before VAT returns are submitted
- Flagging technical or client issues early, with suggested solutions where possible
- Liaising directly with clients, including requesting records and managing progress
- Supporting the wider accounts team by ensuring bookkeeping records are ready for year-end accounts preparation
Who we're after
- Proficient and confident with Xero and QuickBooks
- Strong VAT and bookkeeping experience — we place more weight on demonstrable ability than formal qualifications
- A capable, analytical thinker who takes ownership of their work
- A reliable team member who works well within a small practice
This role would suit someone who is steady, organised and confident managing recurring client work. You’ll need to be comfortable taking responsibility for your own deadlines and communicating in a friendly yet professional manner with the clients and team.
