Full job description

Job Title: Payroll Assistant
Location: Billingham
Reporting To: Payroll Manager / Finance Manager
Working Hours: Flexible Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (or as agreed)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to join our growing team in Billingham. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining accurate records, and supporting employees with payroll-related queries.

Working closely with the Payroll and Finance teams, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll is processed accurately and efficiently while providing excellent administrative support.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation and processing of weekly and monthly payrolls.
Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data.
Process timesheets, expenses, overtime, and absence records.
Support the administration of pensions, statutory payments, and other payroll deductions.
Respond to payroll-related queries from employees in a professional and timely manner.
Assist with payroll reporting and reconciliation activities.
Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and company policies.
Support Finance and Operations teams with general administrative tasks as required.
Assist with audits and payroll documentation when needed.
Liaise with payroll provider.

About You

The successful candidate will:

Have excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Be confident working with numbers and payroll data.
Have strong organisational and time management skills.
Be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Be able to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Have previous payroll, finance, or administration experience (preferred but not essential).
