Full job description

The Role

We're looking for a Digital Marketing & SEO Strategy Lead to advise on and oversee work across multiple client accounts, on a part-time contractor basis.

This is a strategic role rather than a hands-on execution one. You'll set direction on technical SEO, on-page optimisation and content, identify priorities, and guide how work gets delivered against that strategy.

You'll review work from other SEO specialists on the accounts, give feedback, and help keep output consistent with the strategy you've set.

You'll also take the lead on how the team's work is structured, building out workflows, documentation and SOPs from scratch where they don't exist, and improving them where they do. That includes advising on where AI genuinely improves delivery, and where it doesn't.

Part of the role involves reviewing performance data regularly to see what's working, flag risks or opportunities, and turn that into clear recommendations.

You'll contribute to reports and updates, helping communicate strategy and performance clearly to clients. You may also join internal or client meetings to advise on direction and results.

This role suits someone with solid experience in SEO and digital marketing who's confident advising at a strategic level, thinks critically about where AI fits into SEO and marketing strategy (not just how to prompt it), and is happy taking ownership of the quality and direction of the work without needing to do the execution themselves.

Scope of Work

Design and build workflows, SOPs and documentation that make delivery repeatable and easier to hand off, not just refine what's already there
Monitor performance (rankings, traffic, data) and turn findings into strategic recommendations
Lead on reporting and performance insights, applying AI tools where they add genuine efficiency or insight
Advise on and support client communication around strategy and performance
Review work from other specialists and give feedback to keep quality and strategy consistent
Set keyword and content strategy direction aligned with client goals
Advise on technical SEO and on-page priorities for client websites
Guide content strategy based on keyword and competitor research
Oversee monthly client reporting, making sure key metrics (traffic, engagement, bounce rate, ROI) tell a clear story
Stay current with algorithm updates, industry best practice, and how AI is changing search and content
Advise on wider digital marketing strategy, including social media advertising, email marketing, display ads, SEO, SEM and PPC
Use analytics tools to understand customer touchpoints and advise on the end to end customer experience across digital channels

What you bring

3+ years of experience in SEO and digital marketing strategy, ideally in an agency setting across multiple clients
Experience building processes or systems from the ground up, not just working within existing ones
Strong AI literacy, with the judgement to know where AI genuinely adds value in SEO and marketing strategy versus where it doesn't. Experience embedding AI into workflows, reporting or content strategy at a team level, not just using it for individual tasks
Ideally some experience with tech forward, digital first or creative businesses (agencies, startups, music, media or other creative industries)
Strong strategic grasp of technical SEO, on-page optimisation, content strategy and link building
Comfortable working independently and managing your own time to meet deadlines
Able to juggle strategic priorities across multiple projects and accounts
Experience reviewing or guiding other people's work
Good understanding of how SEO and digital marketing performance is measured and improved
Familiarity with CMS platforms
Understanding of local SEO and Google Business Profile strategy

Tools Semrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Surfer SEO,

Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, Claude, and Webflow is a bonus
