We have an exciting opportunity within the Intensive Care Unit at Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a committed, professional, and compassionate individual with a keen interest in data collection.
The Critical Care Data Coordinator (Band 3) plays a vital role in managing, coordinating, and validating ICU data, ensuring compliance with national standards. This position supports accurate reporting of critical care activity, enabling the Trust to meet audit and commissioning requirements.
Working closely with senior clinical staff, the post-holder will collect, verify, and submit data for the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) and the Critical Care Minimum Dataset (CCMDS). Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Due to the specialised nature of this post, comprehensive training and mentoring will be provided by experienced colleagues and audit system providers.
Strong administrative and analytical skills, excellent computer literacy, and the ability to liaise effectively across multidisciplinary teams are essential. The role also involves communication with patients post-discharge, requiring compassion, professionalism, and strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
You will work closely with ICU clinical teams, the ICU Matron, and the ICU Consultant Lead for Data Collection to ensure timely and accurate data submission and continued audit participation.
Collect, collate, and coordinate ICU patient data from records and charts, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with the Data Protection Act.
Identify and code admission reasons using case notes and electronic systems.
Use patient administration and related systems (to NVQ3 equivalent) to produce reports and analyses of ICNARC data and request comparative case mix reports when required.
Prepare reports for clinical audit meetings and support new staff induction regarding data collection and audit use.
Liaise with nursing and medical teams to ensure ICNARC forms are completed for every ICU patient.
Input, verify, and validate data, ensuring completeness and quality control; correct missing or inconsistent information.
Share best practice, represent the Trust at relevant meetings, and manage stock for audit activities.
Design and maintain data collection forms, follow up discharged patients until acute care discharge, and attend mandatory training.
Backup and secure audit files, export validated data to ICNARC or other agencies, and respond to Data Validation Report queries.
Provide clerical support for other ITU audits and collaborate with Clinical Audit and IM&T teams to improve data systems.
The Trust’s services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 473 general and acute beds.
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
