Role Overview

As a Family Support Practitioner, you will deliver practical, compassionate, and tailored support to children, young people, and families. Your work will help prevent family breakdown, reduce crisis situations, and empower families to build safer, more stable futures.

This role is varied, hands‑on, and ideal for someone who is passionate about early intervention and person‑centred support.

Key Responsibilities

Family support work — providing practical and emotional support to families in their homes or community settings
Early help interventions — supporting families to address concerns before they escalate
Parenting support — offering guidance, modelling routines, and helping parents build confidence
Mother and baby support — assisting with bonding, routines, safety, and practical care
Crisis support — responding to urgent needs and helping stabilise situations
Challenging behaviour support — working with young people to develop safer, healthier coping strategies
Supervised family time — facilitating safe, positive contact between children and family members
Respite and short breaks — providing temporary support to reduce pressure on families
Multi‑agency working — liaising with social care, education, health, and community partners
Record keeping — completing clear, accurate notes and reports

Essential

A genuine passion for supporting children, young people, and families
Reliability, professionalism, and strong communication skills
Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a small but growing team
Willingness to complete training and develop new skills

Desirable

Experience in family support, youth work, social care, education, or similar
A driving licence and access to a car (helpful but not essential)
Already registered on the DBS Update Service
Experience supporting families with complex needs
