About the role
The role would suit an enthusiastic graduate, paralegal or junior commercial lawyer looking to gain exposure to film & television focussed work within Wiggin's vibrant and market leading Film & Television Group.
We are looking for a paralegal who will work with the production team, advising primarily on television production matters. The Paralegal's primary duties shall include:
- Providing support on a range of matters as part of a busy production team with a view to running with certain tasks independently when appropriate (e.g. advising on vendor agreements, production of templates). We are looking for someone who can use their initiative to learn about the work and our clients and use this to support the team across different productions.
- Acting as a contact point for incoming queries from active productions.
- Preparing, updating and taking responsibility for checklists and status reports.
- Preparing production packs and template documents. Managing the foregoing with regard to taking instructions from the team on legal, commercial and client specific updates and taking the initiative to suggest updates and maintain consistency of templates across each client's specific productions.
- Drafting correspondence under fee earner supervision with a view to handling appropriate correspondence independently.
- Completing legal and industry research.
- Conducting document reviews (including third party agreements) and drafting amendments under fee earner supervision.
- Preparing first drafts of talent agreements amongst other production related agreements.
- Negotiating agreements under fee earner supervision.
- Providing client updates under fee earner supervision.
- Taking telephone and meeting attendance notes.
- Communicating (by phone and email) with production personnel to manage communications when appropriate and find out information to assist the production team.
- Attending industry events and providing team updates.
Role requirements
- Commitment and desire to work in a busy team with a variety of work and aptitude for multi-tasking.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to excel at the primary responsibilities and be open to additional responsibilities.
- Strong academic/educational background.
- Experience in the film and TV industry preferred (but not required).
- Candidates with LPC/SQE preferred (but not required).
- Excellent attention to detail and a demand for high standards.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Commercial awareness and pragmatism, with the ability to take a commercial approach to decision making.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- A self-starter and problem solver, comfortable handling high workload often under time constraints.
- A willingness to roll up the sleeves and get stuck in no matter how small (or large) a task may be.
- Desire to learn and take on feedback.
