Job Role: Family Support Worker

Accountable to: Registered Manager and Deputy Manager

Location: Linby Lodge, Strelley

Hours of Employment: Full time – 40 hours per week, plus on call duties as required to meet the needs of the organisation.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated, empathic and conscientious Family Support Worker for our residential Family Assessment Centre to provide day-to-day practical and emotional support to parents. You will help create a safe, welcoming home environment and observe and record family interactions to contribute to multi‑disciplinary, evidence‑based assessment reports. You will be required to follow safeguarding and centre policies, support daily routines and practical tasks and work within a multi-disciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to protect the safety and wellbeing of children, parents and staff at all times.

· Maintain a professional demeanour and appearance, dressing comfortably yet appropriately for the role.

· Assist family practitioners in delivering parenting programmes, supporting parents to achieve agreed goals and develop areas identified in their family plan.

· Accurately record and report observations, incidents and concerns using evidence-based information.

· Identify and mitigate risks where possible to protect children, parents and staff.

· Create and sustain a safe, secure and welcoming home environment.

· Participate in regular supervision, team meetings and training, and proactively pursue additional qualifications or development in your own time.

· Adhere to relevant legislation, organisational policies and Ofsted requirements.

· Consistently apply the centre’s policies and procedures in all aspects of work.

· Carry out domestic tasks, including cooking and cleaning, and help to prepare weekly healthy, budget-friendly meals.

· Accompany parents to appointments using public transport when required.

· Where competent and confident, and if holding a valid licence, may be asked to drive the organisation’s vehicle.

· Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the manager to support the smooth operation of the centre.

Skills:

· Strong verbal and written communication skills with children, parents/carers, colleagues, and external agencies (e.g., OFSTED, regulatory departments).

· Committed to safeguarding and anti-discriminatory practice.

· Confident in IT, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

· Dedicated to equal opportunities.

· Able to support and model positive parenting through safe, creative play.

· Enthusiastic about working with young children.

· Full driving licence desirable

· Commitment to self-development and training. Including a willingness to undertake training as identified

· Must have a clear understanding and knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.

· Must be able to work on a rostered basis, including weekends and unsociable hours, this may

occasionally include working and awake night duties, where necessary

· Must understand the broad principles of the Children Act 1989 (and subsequent amendments) and other social care related legislation.
