Chef de Partie (CDP) or Commis Chef (Full-Time or Part-Time)

Start Date: This role will begin in August 2026.

About Clay Coffee + Kitchen

Clay Coffee + Kitchen is a high-quality, premium café and kitchen opening in Gravesend, built around great food, excellent coffee and a genuinely welcoming, relaxing atmosphere.

The space itself is a big part of the experience. Clay features a beautifully designed, luxurious interior that feels calm, warm and inviting. Downstairs, the coffee bar and kitchen will serve a busy daytime trade with a strong focus on consistency, quality and pace. Upstairs, there is a dedicated children's play space, making Clay a place where families, friends and professionals can all feel comfortable spending time.

The kitchen sits at the heart of the business, producing well-executed, fresh food that people come back for, day after day.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Clay from the very beginning.

As a Chef de Partie, you'll work closely with our Head Chef to help deliver exceptional food and maintain the high standards our guests will come to expect. You'll take ownership of your own section, supporting the day-to-day running of the kitchen while helping ensure service is smooth, organised and consistent.

This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced but well-structured kitchen where quality, teamwork and attention to detail are at the heart of everything we do.

Depending on your experience, you'll also support the development of junior team members and take responsibility for leading your section during service.

What You'll Be Responsible For

· Preparing and cooking food to a consistently high standard

· Running your own section confidently during service

· Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen

· Maintaining quality, consistency and presentation across all dishes

· Supporting food preparation, service and daily kitchen organisation

· Maintaining food safety, hygiene and allergen compliance

· Assisting with stock rotation, deliveries and waste management

· Helping maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen

· Supporting and encouraging junior members of the kitchen team

· Playing a key role in delivering a smooth, well-organised kitchen operation

Experience

We're looking for someone who:

· Has previous experience as a Chef de Partie or is an experienced Commis Chef ready to step up

· Is confident running a kitchen section independently

· Has a strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and kitchen organisation

· Takes pride in producing consistently high-quality food

· Works calmly and efficiently during busy service

· Is reliable, organised and enjoys working as part of a team

· Is keen to be part of a new opening and grow with the business

Opening Hours & Service Style

Clay will operate as a daytime café, opening 07:00–17:00, with kitchen service running during shorter daytime hours. Both full-time and part-time applications are welcome.
