Job summary

Are you passionate about making a difference in healthcare? We're looking for a dedicated part-time Health Care Assistant (part time hours to be negotiated over 2 days) to join our friendly team at Claremont Bank Surgery, a town centre practice serving around 7900 patients.

As a Health Care Assistant, you'll play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care alongside a supportive nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependant upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
Assisting healthcare professionals in providing high-quality patient care.
Conducting new patient health checks, measurements, and routine tests.
Supporting patients with various healthcare needs, such as dressing changes, wound care, compression bandaging, ECGs, working within your scope of practice.
Ear irrigation if trained under the supervision of the Practice Nurse
Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
When trained, administer B12 injections.
Maintaining accurate patient records and assisting with administrative tasks as required.
Upholding infection control standards and ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients.
Carry out BMI checks as directed.
Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transport.
Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisation's IPC policy.
Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate, working within your scope of practice.

Essential criteria

1. GCSE grade A-C in English and Maths or equivalent

2. Experience of working with the general public

3. Experience of working in a healthcare setting

4. Ability to record on clinical notes

5. Excellent communications skills and IT skills

6. Effective time management

7. Ability to work as a team and autonomously

8. Good interpersonal skills

9. Ability to follow clinical policy

10. Polite and confident with a flexible approach. An individual who is self motivated and has excellent problem solving skills.

11. Operates with high integrity and loyalty

12. Commitment to ongoing professional development

13. Punctual and committed member of the team

Desirable criteria

1. Ideally you will have completed the HCA Care Certificate

2. Experience of working in Primary Care

3. Have undertaken wound care and suture removal training

4. Competent in the use of Microsoft office and Outlook

5. Experience working with EMIS

6. Flexibility where required to work outside of core hours

Minimum hourly rate is advertised, however to be negotiated dependant on experience.
