LOGISTEED UK Limited operates purpose‑built Processing Centres, with teams embedded directly within customer operations across 13 sites in total. Its head office sits within a 40,500 sq metre facility at Hillthorn Business Park in Washington, Sunderland, supported by a second 38,750 sq metre facility at Turbine Business Park less than a mile away, and a third Sunderland site leased to a partner. The company also manages a 3,300 sq metre centre in Basingstoke. All three locations are strategically positioned close to major transport routes to support efficient UK and international distribution.

Job Overview
We are seeking a professional and experienced Lead Driver to play a key role within our BMW Plant Swindon operation, supporting the delivery of a high-performing Just In Time (JIT) transport service. This hybrid position combines driving duties with on-shift operational coordination, driver support and coaching responsibilities.
The successful candidate will act as the link between drivers and Transport Controllers, helping to maintain operational stability, uphold high standards of safety and compliance, and support the introduction of new processes and technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Class 1 driver with JIT experience to step into a more senior, hands-on role where they can lead by example, develop others and contribute to continuous improvement within a fast-paced automotive environment.

Responsibilities
Shift Start & Operational Support
- Shadow the Transport Controller at the start of each shift to support handover and stabilisation of the operation.
- Support and, where required, lead driver briefings to ensure clarity on workload, priorities and customer expectations.
- Ensure all start‑of‑shift checks are completed correctly and consistently, including the use of new handheld devices and digital processes.
- Act as a first point of support for drivers requiring guidance, clarification or additional assistance at the start of shift.
- Support and, where required, coordinate and complete minor vehicle and trailer repairs, including changing bulbs, suzies, internal straps, etc.
- Populate the start of shift (SOS) handover document, capturing information on Drivers, Vehicles, Trailers and, if necessary, defect information.
Driver Support, Coaching & Standards
- Provide on‑shift coaching and support to drivers who require additional assistance, whether operational, procedural or behavioural.
- Carry out driving assessments, observations and feedback to promote high standards of driving, safety and professionalism.
- Support and reinforce standards in:
- Safe driving and compliance
- 5S and vehicle/yard standards
- Customer service and professional conduct
- Health, Safety & Environment expectations
- Act as a visible role model for best practice and company values at all times.
Operational Resilience & Driving Duties
- Once the operation is stable and drivers are deployed, focus on standard‑related activities, audits, follow‑ups and improvement actions.
- Where required due to sickness absence, high workload or operational pressure, step into driving duties and operate as the additional (14th) driver, complementing the core driver resource.
- Maintain flexibility to move between desk‑based and driving duties as the operation demands.
- Where required to benefit the operational condition, prepare loads/trailers to allow for a smooth turnaround at Plant Swindon for the core resources.
Process & Change Support
- Support the implementation of new operational processes, controls and systems as the Swindon operation matures.
- Provide feedback to Transport Controllers and Management on process gaps, training needs and risks identified during shifts.
- Assist in embedding consistent ways of working across all shift patterns and supporting in populating training records and control documents.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure a high standard of Health & Safety is maintained at all times.
- Challenge unsafe acts, poor standards or non‑compliance in a constructive and professional manner.
- Support defect reporting, incident follow‑up and compliance checks as required.
- Support the Transport Controller and Management Teams with accident/incident investigation and countermeasure effectiveness, as well as working with the team to implement any countermeasures and process changes.
- Attend Safety Tours across Plant Swindon and Plant Oxford, including championing Hazard Reporting.
- Perform routine observations and checks on working areas and processes so as to ensure activities, personnel and the environment is as safe and protected as possible.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Full Class 1 (C+E) driving licence.
- Valid CPC entitlement.
- Digital Tachograph Card, in date and ready to use.
- Proven experience working within a Just‑In‑Time (JIT) time‑critical transport operation, ideally supporting a high‑profile automotive customer.
- Strong understanding of driving standards, safety and compliance.
- Confident in working both behind the wheel and in an office/control room environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to support and coach peers.
- A positive, hands‑on, “lead from the front” approach.
Desirable
- Experience in mentoring, coaching or informal supervision of drivers.
- Familiarity with digital driver systems, handheld devices or telematics.
- Strong IT skills, including basic use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience supporting operational change or process improvement.
