Full job description

We are seekingmotivated and compassionate Assistant Psychologists to join our expanding NHS-commissioned emotional wellbeing service, supporting children, young people, and adults living with chronic health conditions.

Part time or Full time available

This is an exciting and highly developmental role, offering hands-on clinical experience within multidisciplinary NHS pathways, working closely alongside medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.

You will deliver targeted, structured emotional wellbeing interventions, supporting patients to manage the psychological impact of long-term physical health conditions and improve engagement, resilience, and overall health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver structured emotional wellbeing sessions (1:1 and group-based) aligned to service pathways
Support patients with adjustment, anxiety, mood, adherence, and coping strategies related to chronic illness
Work collaboratively with nursing, medical, and MDT colleagues to provide integrated care
Assist with assessment, formulation, and outcome monitoring under supervision
Contribute to programme delivery, psychoeducation, and pathway-based interventions
Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards
Participate in risk assessment, safeguarding processes, and escalation procedures
Engage fully in clinical supervision with a qualified Clinical Psychologist

Training, Supervision & Development

Regular supervision from a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist
Training in:
NHS clinical pathways
Safeguarding (children and adults)
Service-specific intervention models
Excellent opportunity to develop core clinical skills relevant to future Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or other postgraduate training
Exposure to paediatric and adult health psychology, MDT working, and NHS systems

Job role Structure

Combination of virtual and face to face within hospital setting, based on service need

Person Specification

Essential

Undergraduate degree in Psychology (2:1 or above)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work sensitively with patients experiencing complex health needs
full driving licence with access to vehicle

Desirable

Previous experience in healthcare, mental health, or NHS settings
Experience working with children, young people, or adults with physical health conditions
Interest in health psychology, paediatrics, or integrated care pathways
