Position: Housing Officer
Location: Ashfield District Council, Urban Road, Kirkby, Nottingham, NG178DA
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 2+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £ 20.75 per hour

Job Responsibilities

Manage a designated patch of social housing properties, ensuring effective tenancy and estate management.
Provide advice, guidance, and support to tenants to help them sustain their tenancies and understand their tenancy obligations.
Handle tenancy management matters including successions, assignments, joint tenancies, and tenancy transfers.
Investigate and manage breaches of tenancy conditions, including anti-social behaviour (ASB) cases.
Gather evidence, prepare reports, take witness statements, and support legal action where required.
Work with internal teams and external agencies including police, social care, health services, and legal representatives.
Identify vulnerable tenants and make appropriate referrals to support tenancy sustainment.
Carry out estate inspections and maintain a visible presence within the community.
Monitor tenancy issues, maintain accurate records, and update case management systems.
Prepare letters, reports, and briefing notes relating to tenancy and estate management.
Attend tenant and resident meetings and represent the Council at partnership meetings.
Ensure compliance with housing legislation, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience

Experience in housing management, tenancy services, estate management, or a related customer service environment.
Knowledge of tenancy agreements, housing legislation, and housing management practices.
Experience managing complex cases, including ASB and tenancy breaches.
Ability to provide advice, support, and solutions to tenants from diverse backgrounds.
Experience working with vulnerable individuals and partner agencies.
Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare professional reports.
Ability to manage a caseload, prioritise tasks, and meet performance targets.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

Experience working within a local authority or social housing environment.
Knowledge of court processes and housing enforcement procedures.
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
Relevant housing qualification (e.g., CIH qualification) or willingness to undertake training.
