About Gordons Property Lawyers

Founded in 1996; incorporated as Gordons Property Lawyers Ltd (GPL) in 2014 and head office in Maidenhead. We are a long-established, SRA-regulated legal services business specialising in residential remortgage and conveyancing work.

About the role

We are looking for an ambitious Finance Assistant reporting to the Finance Manager to join our friendly and supportive Finance Team.

This is a varied role combining day-to-day finance responsibilities with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in legal cashiering. Once fully trained, the role is expected to be broadly split between general finance duties and supporting the firm’s legal cashiering function.

The position would suit someone in the early stages of their finance career who already has around two to three years’ experience working within a finance or accounts team and is now looking for greater responsibility, structured development and the opportunity to build a long-term career.

Previous legal cashiering experience is not required. We will provide training and support to help you develop the knowledge and confidence needed to work with client and office account transactions and understand the SRA Accounts Rules.

Over time, there may also be opportunities to take on more senior responsibilities and receive support towards a relevant professional qualification.

What you will be doing

You will support the Finance Team across a broad range of responsibilities, including:

Assisting with client and office account transactions, including receipts, payments and transfers
Preparing and processing payments accurately and within agreed timescales
Completing bank reconciliations and investigating and resolving differences
Processing supplier invoices and assisting with payment runs
Responding to supplier queries and maintaining accurate supplier records
Assisting with billing and allocating incoming payments
Following up outstanding balances where required
Monitoring shared Finance inboxes and responding to internal and external queries
Supporting month-end processes and preparing information for the Finance Manager
Maintaining accurate financial records and following agreed controls
Learning and applying the requirements of the SRA Accounts Rules
Supporting supplier onboarding and due diligence
Obtaining quotations and assisting with occasional procurement reviews
Helping maintain supplier, contract and service records
Supporting the wider Finance Team as priorities change

As your experience develops, you will be given increasing responsibility and the opportunity to process transactions more independently.

About you

You will ideally have around two to three years’ experience in a finance, accounts or similar role. With a minimum 4-9 GCSEs (grades A-C/4-9), including Maths & English. Candidate with foundational accounting training i.e. AAT Level 2 or above will be desirable.

You do not need previous experience within a law firm, but you should already understand basic accounting principles and be comfortable working with numbers.

Training and development

This role offers a clear opportunity to broaden your finance experience and develop specialist legal cashiering knowledge.

You will receive practical training and support from an experienced Finance Team. As the role develops, support towards a relevant professional qualification may also be available.

For someone with the right attitude and ambition, there is the potential to progress into a more senior finance or legal cashiering role in the future.
