Role Purpose
The Logistics & Site Support Operative provides flexible, hands-on support across packing, goods in, and general site operations to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the business.
In the first instance, the role supports the packing team as needed, while also assisting with goods handling and site maintenance activities as required. The position plays an important part in maintaining workflow, supporting operational demands, and ensuring high standards of housekeeping and safety across site.
Key Responsibilities
- Packing & Dispatch Support
- Support the packing team on a day-to-day basis to keep workflow smooth and consistent.
- Assist with two-person packing activities and larger or more complex items.
- Ensure packed goods meet company standards for quality and presentation.
- Help maintain an organised and efficient packing area.
Goods In Support
- Assist with booking in goods for simple products that do not require detailed inspection against documentation.
- Ensure items are received, recorded, and stored correctly.
- Escalate any issues or discrepancies to the appropriate team.
Logistics & Handling
- Operate forklift trucks and pallet trucks to move goods safely across site, where trained and authorised.
- Support the movement of materials between departments to maintain workflow.
- Assist with loading and unloading deliveries as required.
Crate & Pallet Preparation
- Manufacture pallets and crates for dispatch where required, once trained.
- Coordinate with subcontract suppliers for crate provision where sufficient lead time is available.
- Ensure all packing solutions are fit for purpose and meet transport requirements.
HSE & Site Maintenance
- Carry out routine site checks and maintenance activities in line with training and company procedures.
- Support the upkeep of health, safety, and environmental controls, including scheduled checks on equipment, facilities, and compliance systems.
- Complete and record regular inspections (e.g. fire safety equipment, COSHH, LEV, Legionella, utilities, and infrastructure checks), ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across site, including outdoor yard areas, ensuring all workspaces are clean, safe, and organised.
- Report and escalate any issues, defects, or non-conformances identified during checks or day-to-day activities.
- Carry out other duties as required by the manager.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support across multiple areas of the business.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing operational priorities.
- Basic written and verbal communication skills for completing checks and reporting issues.
Desirable
- Valid forklift truck licence (counterbalance and/or reach).
- Previous experience in packing, warehousing, logistics, or a similar site-based role.
- Experience with pallet and crate manufacture or basic woodworking.
- Awareness of HSE checks such as COSHH, LEV, Legionella, and fire safety inspections.
