Cook with us in the Staffordshire Moorlands

Tucked away on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands with views out towards the Roaches, Jacksons Tea Room is a much-loved spot for food lovers, walkers, garden enthusiasts and families from across the area. We’ve built a strong reputation for delicious home-cooked food, freshly baked cakes and warm, personal service. Whether our guests are toasting by the open fire in winter or soaking up the sunshine on our terrace in summer, we want every visit to feel special.

Our kitchen team takes genuine pride in cooking from scratch using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. From hearty soups and traditional pies to seasonal salads, gourmet sandwiches, full English breakfasts and a proper Sunday roast, there’s real care behind every plate. We’re now looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team.

About the role

As Sous Chef, you’ll be running service when needed, driving consistency, mentoring junior chefs and helping shape the food we put out every day. You’ll have a genuine influence on our specials, our suppliers and how the kitchen operates day-to-day, while keeping up the standards our guests come back for time and time again.

What you’ll be doing

Run kitchen service alongside the head chef and senior sous chef and deputise in their absence
Lead, motivate and train the kitchen team, including our commis chef and kitchen assistants
Help develop and refine our specials, Sunday roast, breakfast and afternoon tea offering
Oversee food preparation, plating and presentation to ensure consistent high quality
Manage stock, ordering and deliveries, and nurture relationships with our local suppliers
Monitor portion control, costings and waste to support a well-run, profitable kitchen
Get involved in food safety, allergen management, HACCP and kitchen hygiene
Help plan rotas and prep schedules, and keep things running smoothly across breakfast, lunch and Sunday service
Step in across any station as needed – this is a hands-on role in a busy, friendly kitchen

About you

Solid experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie or similar in a busy commercial kitchen
Strong all-round cooking skills with a love of fresh, seasonal, home-cooked food
Calm, organised and able to be part of a kitchen team collectively delivering to a high standard during service
Confident with food safety, allergens and HACCP (formal qualifications welcomed)
Reliable and consistent, with high standards and real pride in your work
Generally fit and able to be on your feet throughout service

The practical bits

Pay: Competitive, plus tips shared between front of house and kitchen staff on a pro-rata basis
Hours: Up to 5 days per week, generally 7:30am to 4:30pm
Weekends: Weekend availability is essential
Contract: Permanent
Transport: Due to our rural location, you’ll need your own transport

Pay: £13.00-£13.50 per hour
